Rice women enter top 25 basketball poll
https://riceowls.com/news/2019/2/18/wome...story.aspx

First time in school history. They crack the poll at #25.

Congrats to the team. I think at this point if they win out in the regular season, they'll get an at-large NCAA bid even if they don't win the NCAA tournament. But all bets are off if they lose one of their final 3 regular season games.

That is awesome!

The USM men's team somehow garnered 1 vote in the USA Today top 25 poll this week.

Oh sorry, Ole Miss had one vote in the AP poll so I thought that's what you were referring to.

Now in looking at that, I see UNT has 9 votes. How do both of those teams get votes over ODU?

BTW, with Oregon's loss tonight to arch rival Oregon State, Rice (and Baylor) now hold the longest active win streak in the country at 15 games and counting. Rice is also up to 10th nationally in scoring defense.

Have no idea how any could vote North Texas Top 25 at this point. Must be coaches too busy to submit their votes and just duplicated it the last 5 weeks or their secretary is voting every week and doesn't know any better or forgot to swap out teams haha...Also interesting Southern Miss got 1 vote in coaches poll, that makes more sense at this point than North Texas getting any votes..

RE: Rice women enter top 25 basketball poll
Rice moves up a spot to 24th this week. But ESPN's bracketology talks about 5 mid-major teams that are NCAA locks even if they don't win their conference tournament (South Dakota, South Dakota State, Central Michigan, Drake & Gonzaga) and doesn't mention Rice even though 3 of those 5 teams are only receiving votes and not in the current top 25.

It will be interesting to see what happens if Rice doesn't win the tournament. I can see any of the top 9 teams in the conference having a chance to win the tournament. It's all about getting hot at the right moment.

I think we’re still two regular season wins away from truly being a ‘lock’.

As long as we finish over .500 from here on in I think we’re in.

However I think I’d still prefer to just win the next five & become the first “Miami Dolphins” of CUSA. (No team has ever gone unbeaten in both regular season & the Conference Tourney the same year)
