Top 6 still a possibility
Last nights win was just huge for this team.

UNCW should have the tiebreaker now over any team they split with since beating Hofstra will be tiebreaker #2. With the bottom being a jumbled mess that tiebreaker could turn out to be huge.

Currently the Hawks are 9th, a half game in the win column above Elon and a half game behind JMU in the loss column

Here is the schedule for Thursday night
UNCW @ ELON
Towson @ Hofstra
JMU @ Northeastern
Charleston @ W&M

If we can beat Elon and the top 3 win, we will be in the 8th slot heading into Saturday against the Tribe, a half game in the loss column out of the 5th slot behind the three way tie of W&M, Towson, and Drexel.

We have a lot of work to do, but the way it looks, this team is in pretty good shape to avoid the playin round if they keep winning

RE: Top 6 still a possibility
I'd almost rather be the 8 or 9 and draw Hofstra in the Quarterfinals!

The 6-seed means we draw NU or Charleston, neither of which are good matchups for us.

If we win out the 5th seed is not an unrealistic possibility

Easy my man temper those expectations. We lost like what 8, 9 in a row? Certainly a nice win but running the table on the road seems a bit of a pipe dream

6, but who cares about facts when it’s easier to hate on losses than appreciate wins.

I very much appreciate the W and haven't hated on it whatsoever how could you, it's the best game they have played under CB hands down! Maybe it was 8 of 9, or 9 of 10 i was thinking of? Regardless, I'm simply saying that one win after losing a bunch isn't indicative of having a realistic shot at running the table, especially on the road. It's a nice win, let's take it as that.

I'm just throwing out possibilities if we keep winning.

I thought that awful 1-3 home stand against the bottom tier teams was a death knell and that there would be no chance at escaping the playin game.

Turns out that is not the case.

If this team can keep winning they can finish in the middle of the league

You guys went 7-11 and finished 6th last year. All it takes to do it again is beat Elon and split the two games with the Tribe and Charleston. The 5 straight years of the semis in the CAA tourney is at risk for both the Seahawks and Tribe. Not looking likely that either makes it to the semis right now.

I doubt Hofstra would want that, either. Plus, last night likely ended any remote at large hopes they might have had. Personally, I think 26-5, 16-2 with some run in the CAA tournament but no title ought to get them in, but it won't happen.

RE: Top 6 still a possibility
I don't see that CofC is a bad matchup. Cacok OWNS them in the paint and the game at Trask was actually pretty close. We've settled into a slower game and should be able to hang with CofC on offense.

I'm actually feeling some optimism with this team right now. As much as I hate to see Fornes on the bench and, IMO, likley out the door, it has helped to narrow our rotation. Estime' looks really confident with his shot now and Sims is coming around in all aspects of his game. Taylor is still making dumb errors and isn't playing much either.

We seem to have found a better tempo that allows us to compete and a more narrow rotation may be helping as well. Our next game is the most important of the season. After a high energy, emotional win at Trask over the #1 team in the conference, we hit the road. Did we win off because of that emotional high, or have we truly turned a corner with this team?

Prior to yesterday, we would’ve considered Hofstra a bad matchup. Let’s play out the season and see what chips fall.

I never count out a Joe Mihalich-team to get outcoached.

Earl Grant and Bill Coen are several tiers above Mihalich and thus are always scarier opponents in a CAA Tournament setting.

That I agree with. Mihalich, for all the talent he’s had at Hofstra is easier to out coach than those guys. Or his teams are just good at choking.

You hear me Gustys??? He’s the biggest choker of them all.

From what I can find out, Fornes is now nursing an ankle problem. There is nothing so far to point towards him transferring. Hoping that's the case, because he had turned the corner and was being very productive on the court.

Earl Grant (CofC), Bill Coen(Northeastern), and Martin Inglesby(Delaware)are the three coaches and teams that McGrath has yet to beat.

As an aside I think Bill Coen is consistently the best coach in the league. What he is running at Northeastern is similar to what McGrath wants to do here IMO. Up tempo offense, half court man to man defense, a taller team that has guards that attack and shoot the 3, and bigs that pound the paint.

Maybe not. Seemed like he was suspended and hadn't returned because of the suspension.

If we make a run while he's on the bench, and Sims and Estime produce and we win out, i'm not sure how he does more than come off the bench with Taylor there as well. Really depends on his plans for the future. If he wants to play ball after college, he almost has to transfer because he likely won't be a starter here.

While I'm not the biggest fan of discussing who might transfer during the season. I'm almost willing to bet it's going to be Taylor. My prediction is Fornes will stay.

We might as well dream big the last 3 games! Let's sweep this week and see what we can do in Charleston, we always seem to play them tough at least... Wings Up!

The great thing is they are three teams we certainly can beat (the Hofstra confidence boost aside). The confidence boost as the men go back on the road is great, and Charleston for all of our woes has been a largely under-performing team this year considering pre-season expectations.
