Other college baseball scores - Feb. 15-17
On opening night yesterday, only three other CUSA teams lost games: McNeese over UTSA, 16-5; Stony Brook over FIU, 13-7; and High Point over ODU, 5-4, in the 2nd game of their doubleheader.

USM needed 10 innings to come back from a 6-4 deficit to beat Purdue, 7-6, on a drizzly day at The Pete.

Not many upsets on Friday:

> Oregon beat #8 Texas Tech in Lubbock, 9-4

> UConn beat #4 Louisville, 3-2, in Lakeland, Fla.

> More a battle of equals than an upset, but #25 Cal State-Fullerton defeated #19 TCU, 2-0, in Scottsdale, Ariz.

On the positive side, three Florida State pitchers no-hit Maine, 11-0.

Coogs won their weekend series at home vs. Northwestern (La.) State, but stuggled mightily, losing today 2-1 in 11 innings, and winning the first two with walkoff hits in the 9th inning.

No doubt!! We'll have to ask Jessica Fletcher to find out how the Black Bears' offense was murdered 42-9 in their 4-game series in Tallahassee. :-)

Texas won 2 of 3 at Louisiana (losing Sunday in the third straight close game). They actually open the season with 4 straight road games. Arizona easily swept UMass, scoring 69 runs in 4 games. That's a lot but much less than New Mexico State which scored 98 runs (!) in its 4-game sweep over TSU.

Rain is in the forecast a bit for our midweek games. But the timing of the rain is still a bit murky. Tuesday looks wetter according to some predictions than Wednesday, and other sites have Wednesday as the wetter day. It looks like Arizona is in town all week (they play at UH next weekend) so there is always a chance we can move that game to Thursday if need be.

C-USA baseball off to a pretty good start, 2nd best winning percentage, behind only SEC.

I don't like a ranking that has the SEC in the top three spots. Then at the bottom they have the SWAC West at 5-8, the SWAC East at 3-9, and the SWAC at 2-11. Then, at 27, they list a conference called "Red Rolfe", but I clicked on it and it contains half of the Ivy League. Weird.

Massey's not keeping up.

The Ivy League's Red Rolfe (North - Brown, Dartmouth, Harvard & Yale) and Lou Gehrig (South - Penn, Columbia, Cornell & Princeton) Divisions, which had existed for 26 seasons, were disbanded last year in favor of a single, conference-wide pool of teams.

I tipped him off. He's going to fix it this weekend.
