WBB Game 25: ODU (19-5, 8-4) @ Charlotte 13-11 (5-7)
This Saturday the Monarchs will travel to Halton Arena in Charlotte, NC. The 49ers will host there annual #Play4Kay game, with a pre-game survivor walk on the court. They will distribute free pink t-shirts and a silent auction will be held to benefit the Kay Yow Foundation. Naturally this will be the must-see event in Charlotte for this weekend…..that isn’t related to the NBA All-Star game. ;-)

The 49ers are 13-11 (5-7) overall, where they are 11-2 at home. They have a RPI ranking of 151 and SOS of 134.

The 49ers have a solid team. They rotate players in and out like crazy. So it’s hard to get a beat on the match-ups. It’s a team where everyone has a job and they play in transition. Phillips, LInney, and Raventos are the big three, but Jett-Wilson is a nice piece on offense. This will be a tough game for ODU. The 49ers beat UAB and are tough at home.

The interesting thing about Charlotte is that they have the exact conference schedule as ODU. And if you compare the conference only stats, you will see somethings.
…………….CHA…….ODU
PPG……..59.9…….67.3
OPPG…..61.1…….60.1
FG%.......41.1……42.2
OFG%....41.0…..38.4

BPG….2.7………2.3

The curious shooting change of Maggie Robinson
Early in the season Maggie hit some big-time threes that really helped ODU in tight spots. Since conference play though, Maggie has been shooting the three ball to the extreme.

Pre Conference: Total shots: 96. Inside the arc: 50 Outside the arc: 46 games: 12
Post Conference: Total shots: 72. Inside the arc: 15. Outside the arc: 57 games: 12

My guess is that we are trying to make up for the missing Victoria Morris and her 3 point shot. Maggie does a lot for this team, but is using her primarily as an outside shooter the best way to use her on offense? I’m not so sure.

Con USA Standings. Right now ODU is in a four way tie for third place That is the good news. The bad news, the other three teams have all beaten ODU. But lots of schedule left to play. But as you can tell, this is an important game for the Monarchs.
Rice 12-0

At the half, our women are down 36-22. Shot selection hasn't been that great which is causing a number of missed shots. Hope to see a better performance in the second half. Go Monarchs!

The ladies couldn't quite contain UNC-C and fell by the score 69-59. Next Saturday presents an opportunity to seek revenge on our home court.

Well ODU made history yesterday. The 21-3 second quarter marked the fewest points Charlotte has given up in any quarter. I give ODU credit. They were down by 11 at the half, but with less than three minutes in the 3rd quarter we were down by three. They punched back. But then the 49ers went on another run. But yes, shot selection (1-for-12) and getting out-rebounded 17-5 (including 7-2 on the offense glass) really hurt us in that second quarter. From the free throw line, 9-18 for the game will only bring us down.

I love coach McCray's speech after the game though. She is right. Yes it's a young team, but the freshman should be playing like sophomores by now. She is going to hold them accountable. We should come out with fire for next week's game.

As far as conference USA standings, this would have been a great game to win. And we still have a home game against Marshall on our schedule which is going to be huge for us. We still have a chance to finish top 4, but we need a few breaks to go along the way.... Right now we are just outside the top four.

Top of the standings....
Rice 13-0
Middle Tennessee St 10-3
UAB 9-4
Marshall 9-4
ODU 8-5
WKU 8-5
Southern Miss 7-6
North Texas 7-6
Charlotte 6-7
La Tech 6-7

Does anyone know if there has been a change to the women's game time on Saturday? They are supposed to play Charlotte at 4 pm. Is that time still right? Will they clear the arena between games?

Saw this earlier, looks like your Men's ticket will keep you in the building for the Ladie's game too.
