Academics: We're now R2! EMU moves to top 3% of universities in research activity

Good news. We've moved into the R2 research category, which as the headline says, puts us in the top 3% of universities nationwide in research activity.

This is important for advancing our academic perception, particularly for graduate students. It's a major factor that grad students look for, and while I don't think we'll see an overnight boost, it will be helpful in attracting out-of-state graduate students over time. A university that supports research and graduate student research at a high level is obviously much more attractive to prospective doctoral and Master's students. The nationally recognized credential helps show evidence that EMU can do that.
