So do we want Mick fired or are we concerned about him leaving? I need to know what to carve into my pitchfork.

Mick has been winning and getting to the tournament. Therefore, most every sports writer will include him on their "potential candidate" listing whenever a "big" job opens up.
I may be wrong, but I am not really worried about Mick leaving any time soon.

IDK if I agree with that. Mick is making ~$2.2M/year at UC. UCLA was paying Alford $2.6M. Not exactly a cavernous gulf.
People think our fan base/boosters have unrealistic expectations, UCLA fired Ben Howland shortly after going to the Final Four 3 out of 5 years.
At UC the Bearcats get drowned out by the Reds and the Bengals. In L.A. the Bruins get downed out by the Lakers, the Clippers, the Rams, the Chargers, the Dodgers, the Angels, the LA Kings and USC.
Mick may leave UC for a P5 gig, but my guess is there are a great number of better opportunities.

Neither. Just don't repeat our UNLV mistake.

Funny thing is, if we lose in the first round of the NCAA and some people here want Mick gone, no other school will be interested.
If UC goes to the Final Four (or better) and people here then want Mick to stay forever, he will be courted by all kinds of other schools.

It's UCLA. It would be way easier to win national championships there than at Cincinnati. And wouldn't take much effort to get back to dominating the PAC12 with the way Mick builds with defense.

I'd be curious to see how Mick recruits the West Coast. Ucla has for years depended on Cali talent which isn't Mick's forte.

We should never discount the possibility that a coach's name gets whispered to other schools by his agent in order to test market value and create leverage for re-negotiating said coach's current contract.

You would think that UCLA will pay a lot more. I think they about tripled Alford's salary when they hired him.
Howland did have that great run at UCLA, but the program was a disaster when he finally got fired, and not just from a W-L perspective.
As for UCLA getting drowned out in LA, no one cares much about any of those teams you named, except the Lakers (the Dodgers, too, but MLB doesn't really compete with college hoops). There's plenty of room for the Bruins. Lonzo Ball was the biggest star in college hoops when he was there, for example.
I don't think UCLA will actually come after Cronin. He'd do great there, though.

I'd be fine with increasing the assistant coach pool so we can pay those that are deserving (and look for upgrades in the case of some others).

Same here. I'd love to see us upgrade at least one of the assistant spots with a better recruiter.

RE: College Hoops Coaching Carousel (2019)
Mick wasn't hired at Ohio State or Louisville. This means either
1) Mick rejected them. If he'll reject programs in better shape than UCLA that are within driving distance of his daughter in Cincy, why would he go to UCLA?
OR
2) They didn't want him. if those schools didn't want Mick, why would hoity-toity UCLA consider him?
