Men's basketball @FIU
4-5 at the first media timeout (under-16)

Strange beginning, as the Panthers got their hands on the ball during the Owls' first three possessions: shot block, pass intercepted / pass intercepted / pass tipped OB, shot block.

There's a very strange strip of blue & white swirls down the length of the far side of the FIU's court. It's hard to imagine why such a high-contrast pattern is permitted. It looks like its a narrow sideline marking.

8-14 at the under-12 timeout.

We'd really benefit from having a savvy ball-handler/dribbler. One possession was lost with the Rice guy was "dribbling the ball so far out in front that it was an invitation to steal," said the FIU announcer.

We also got two called for two charging fouls ... bracketed by a blocking infraction on a similar-looking play at the other end. Grrr.

Rice takes the lead! 18-17 at the under-8 timeout (7:17 left in iH).

QMB made two buckets and Peterson added a layup during the Owls' spurt.

Two Rice turnovers (give-aways, really) in the next 25 seconds. FIU up 24-18 with 6:62 left in 1H. Grrr.

5:23 left in 1H, and Rice committed its 12th (!!!) turnover ... can't get into the front court in 10 seconds. Grrr.

15 turnovers leading to 23 FIU points and I don’t think we have had back to back consecutive stops more than twice.

RE: Men's basketball @FIU
Blecccch!!!

29-42 at the half.

FIU got 23 points off Rice's 15 first-half turnovers. (Does a long-range airball count as turnover?)

Rice was 0-8 from 3-point range.

We were holding the ball for the last shot ... when an illegal screen penalty was called with 5.3 seconds left!! Arrgh!

FIU then executed the play our opponents love so much: the half-court roll (no ticks off the clock), followed by a full-speed drive to the hoop and reverse layup at the buzzer. GRRRRR!!!

Absolutely terrible half. Let's hope coach has a good halftime talk because we're sleepwalking.

47-57 with 11:51 left (under-12 TO).

Strange stuff. FIU's big got his 3rd & 4th fouls in the first 1:16 of the 2nd half. Owls got into the bonus with 13:34 left. Making some FTs. Murphy block led to a nice fast-break layup. Can we avoid the TOs the rest of the game?

QMB might be the best player on our team.

No!!! Arrrgh. "He pickpocketed Mullins. Probably the easiest he'll ever have." Then a turnover on a throw-in under the Rice basket, which led to an FIU 3 at the other end. And later, a dribble off an owl foot.

But buckets by Ako, QMB and Williams bring Rice to within 8 -- 56-64 -- with ~ 7 min left.

He is tonight. Guard play is a turnover festival.

And we somehow got him only 9 shots, a few of which came off of OREBs. We're seeing that this team can win against anybody in conference and lose against anybody in conference, which I guess isn't unexpected for a young team.

Also picked a bad day to lose with some of the results/potential results around the league.

33 turnovers in all ... the last few led to baskets by an FIU walk-on, a freshman's 4th bucket of the year and another bench-player's 2nd 3 of the season.

This team's gotta be a lot less charitable with the ball in Boca if they want to make the "Pretty Pod".

65 points is the lowest point total by any opponent of FIU with the exception of JWU-North Miami (whatever that is).
