RE: Bilus gives us (Martin) some love
We don't have a lot of rah-rah guys in our corner, from a national media perspective.

However, I don't really ever recall Bilas hating on us.

I mostly remember him sucking up to Duke, Kansas KY etc... and not even thinking about us.

To heck with keeping track, though....It's much more efficient to hate them all without reserve.

That way we can let them off the hate-hook as they prove themselves worthy.

Agreed. Nice to see it, but I was surprised to see the Tigers at 57.

No, it was Seth Davis - another Duke graduate. He singled out Memphis in the 2006 Tourney to be suspectable to an upset by a 16 seed. His shockingly original theroy was we were untested in C-USA.

The Tigers won by 16 which represented the same margin as his beloved alma mater over their 16th seed. Naturally, he did not issue a mea culpa.

Davis, Dukie V, and Bias make up the trinity of Blue Devil apologists.

He did hate on us for firing Tub of lard.

I find Bilas a very fair commentator on college sports. You may not like his opinion, but at least there is some thinking behind it.

Thanks. I couldn't remember who it was just one of the Dukies.

Jay Bilas? He used to be very complimentary of us, lol. Y'all have your blinders on too much.

We have different recollections or you are unable to recognize the nuances of criticism.

I seem to remember him being pretty good during Cal's good years. Made some nice comments during the early Pastner years. But yeah since then he's been subpar. Certainly not fond of how we treated his man Tubby. Said we should be ashamed.

He's a young buck who takes everything at face value. One day he'll grow up and realize the world isn't just black and white.

Nah, I just have a good memory. And have talked to Bilas at Gameday. He always loves coming to Memphis. Ah nice to remember things.

RE: Bilas gives us (Martin) some love
Paraphrasing, since it's premium, with quotes in " ": Also only posting / paraphrasing / discussing the Memphis part of a very long article.

Bilas: "The Tigers will be fine. This is a good team with terrific guards and good depth. Pastner, despite the naysayers talking about his lone NCAA win (do you know how many really good coaches can't match Pastner's record?), is a very good coach who has won 27 games a season and has dominated Conference USA in his time at Memphis. If he couldn't really coach, he'd have no shot to put up that record."

Other points:

Memphis is a top-25 caliber team.

The Tigers are small at the guard spot, young on the wings and young inside.

The outstanding young players need experience.

Oklahoma State mauled Memphis, but part of the snowball rolling downhill was poor shooting and Smart totally frustrating JJ.

Pastner has 4 different presses that can speed you up, and he has some good offensive sets that allow drive-and-kick opportunities, or high-low action.

Memphis will be fine if it sticks together and fights together.

Doesn't see Memphis making the F4, but wouldn't be surprised if we reached the S16.

Says we will have issues against longer, bigger teams.

Found this on google from a AAA post. Wonder what he's up to.

Alright young buck. It’s ok to be naive; one day you will grow up.

Bilas has actually gotten alot more neutral in his commentary the past few years. I'm starting to like him because of that non favoritism he shows.

I like him because some of the papers and speeches he's given against the NC2A are so intelligent and so well-prepared. You can tell he's a very intelligent lawyer. That's enough for me.
