RE: pep band
"Here is a new-flash Hyper......most folks at sporting events do not make it a point to be in there seat at attention to hear what the pep-band is gonna play this week. For most folks it is just something to fill dead-times on the court or field NOT the reason they are there."

Nothing to do with the silly back and forth but I believe the attitude of this comment can be related to the atmosphere of basketball at JMU. I think it's true that many folks just come to see the game but there are many programs with fantastic atmosphere's where the fans are there for the total experience, the spectacle. Of course fans come for the game but also the band, the cheer leaders, dance team, what "stunt" the student section is going to do next, free tee shirts.

When I became a closer fan/supporter of JMU sports 5 or 6 years ago, I was baffled that JMU played "canned/recorded music" at sporting events when they have one of the finest music departments in the commonwealth. I was blown away at my first trip to the convo when the pep band took a break at the half and didn't play the entire time.

Chad tried to somewhat copy the Green Machine/Peppas model but that didn't work out so well.

Sorry I posted this before I read Hyper's post #75...we're kind of saying similar things.

Shady, never in the history of a thread has someone been destroyed so thoroughly.

What you've just said is a collection of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent responses were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this thread is now dumber for having read them. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Hyper, he's got a family! Mercy!

Ok sure......if by rambling you mean that some (IMO the majority of folks at a sporting event) could care less what the band plays sure......I bow at the might Hyper's feet and have been thoroughly embarrassed and destroyed by his band & musical prowess and insight. 03-zzz

The one thing I have learned is heaven forbid you ever disagree with Hyper's opinion or stance with regard to anything musical/band related. No one else is worthy nor does their opinion matter.

As I said I don't really care and it was quite amusing to me how easy it is to get someone all worked up on this topic, comical one might say.

Oh well moving on......have a great day all.

It's pretty clear to everyone but you that you're the one that got worked up.

Hyper's opinion, while still an opinion, is usually the most thought out and backed up with actual insider information, especially when it comes to the "Music Department".

Furthermore, for someone who's a fan of JMU, you show your ignorance by claiming people don't care about the band. How many times did we hear before 2004 that "people go to the game for the band"? It's almost certainly been the case with basketball since I've been a fan (outside of a few peak years with Coach Brady).
Even so, why would you come into a thread SPECIFICALLY ABOUT THE PEP BAND and then get mad that people are discussing the pep band? Clearly the people in this thread will care about the pep band.

You're like a child, wandering into a conversation and demanding it be changed to something he knows something about.

Yeah, he's a weird dude. Admitted to trolling me because he gets laughs from it; that says a lot about a dude in his 40's. That guy's baby brain thinks that people who have degrees in music should value the ignorant musical opinions of others equally. Like, that's his latest argument. I'm just putting him on ignore & putting this conversation away.

Reading through the repetitive and circular nature of the argumentative back-and-forth in this thread, I think I can surmise what it is like to be an audience member in the stands listening to Night Train for the 17th time in one half.

Lots of mad people in this thread.

I want to listen to the pep band and not that loud music they are playing from a recording.

RE: pep band
Think we should all just be grateful for the music resources JMU has & move on. After all, we're not the Ticks who recruit mediocre local high school bands to play @ the breadbox.
Be The Change (or something like that).

RE: pep band
I for one LOVE the pep band. I don't go to the men's games but I have season tickets for WBB. The pep band is like our "6th man" and they are AWESOME. I can say this coming from Tennessee where the pep band is musically good but doesn't cheer like ours and has no sense of humor whatsoever. I seem to recall hearing that when JMU had that home-and-home with the Lady Vols a few years back, a Tennessee fan was heard to say that their pep band could really learn something from ours. Having been both places, I can attest to that! But that said, I also vote for some new music through the season. Please, Amy, don't get lazy.
