C-USA COY discussion
Spinoff of the POY thread.

Who are the frontrunners here? I think Henson gets it if UTSA wins the regular season, but otherwise Sadler would have a good case provided USM doesn’t collapse down the stretch. Thoughts?

Not a front runner, but Rice’s Pera merits consideration. If we get to 7-7, and/or make a tourney run, he might get some votes. He’s the real deal and is definitely one to watch next year...

Remember Rice was picked to finish 14th by both coaches and CSNbbs fans this season.

It’s a crapshoot. Whoever wins the regular season probably should get it.

Henson won it last year so I don't think he'll get it again this year. Has Jeff Jones won it ever? He'd get my vote.

No, he has never won it. Do they determine this after the tournament concludes?

However, if Rice finishes top 5 I don't see how he doesn't get it considering this was the preseason coaches poll:

1. WKU (9)
2. Marshall (5)
3. Old Dominion
4. North Texas
5. UTSA
6. Louisiana Tech
7. Southern Miss
8. UAB
9. Middle Tennessee
10. FIU
11. UTEP
12. Florida Atlantic
13. Charlotte
14. Rice

I still have to vote Jeff Jones based on body of work season-to-date.

Pera brought Rice to a competitive level in very short order (that was the hard part). When we get over the hump and finish games against more of the top teams then we can talk about COY. (Notice I say ‘when’ not ‘if’).

In the unlikely event that the door opens for us to steal a top pod spot, we’d have those opportunities in pod play. More likely, we’ll have to wait for the tourney for our next chance to shock the world.

For the gym the play in, Steve Henson should be COY with those two sophomores he was able to bring in on team...If he keeps both all four years he should win COY of the year every year....

Although the year isn't over with yet, I agree with this in principle. I selfishly kinda wish he doesn't get COY again though because if he wins it for the 2nd consecutive year, I fear he'll likely be gone next year.

IF USM keeps winning it'll be Doc, no doubt about it.

If Team X keeps winning it'll be Team X's coach, no doubt about it
