We don't have Dallas Goedert at TE, and we won't trying to run plays for guys we wish we had. This staff will take what they can get out of the players and call for what the players do best.

The new coaching staff could change things of course but i would expect Brinkman, Crawford and Lersch to get most of the playing time this year.

That might be true but the reverse is true also in that you can have no offensive mind and it doesn't matter what kinds of playmakers you have. We are certainly familiar with that from the past 3 years. What worries me about next season is that the playmakers have moved on, so it will take some great coaching to dig out of this, and recruit more talent also.

What playmakers from last year, have moved on?

They should have kept lersch on D. Brinkman and snotgrass are enough.

Last year, we had the fewest playmakers in a decade. Wesley was your best receiver which isn't saying much, Childers average at best, running game serviceable. No gamebreakers. 3 yards and a cloud of dust.

D.J. Brown and Tears should have been the playmakers on offense last year...Tears seemed uninterested until the last few games and then you saw him show his stuff...D.J. Brown they (Childers, Coach U, etc.) couldn't get the ball to enough, but you saw what he could do when they did in the MACC.

The RB's are good, just not sure there's consistent big yard gainers there, maybe Harb will take the next step.

There are no elite playmakers, yes. No Golladay’s, Wolfe’s or TommyLee’s, but there are playmakers. Harbs is as good as Stingley. Tears is as good as Moore. There are perfectly capable players at the skill positions, Carey just ran a defunct offense with a QB who held the ball too long and threw the timing of the offense off. You’ll see better results with a new offense in 19.

I'm guessing a little bit here because I haven't looked for it while watching the games, but I know that I saw some lousy blocking by our receivers on the line of scrimmage. I'm guessing there were some lousy blocking downfield which prevented the big plays from happening. Harbs did have some chunk runs (that's why he had such a high YPC average) but I'm sure that if he had better downfield blocking it could have been much better. I saw the receivers miss a bunch of blocks and drop a bunch of passes last year. I hope our new receiving coach gets a lot more out of them...

Sorry Rabid....Tears is as good as Moore? 04-jawdrop

I think you meant "could be" and I understand Moore had a better QB. Take away the recent MACC and I really haven't seen much.

Tears also leads Moore in suspensions.

At similar points in their respective careers, it’s close. Tears first 24 games look like this: 83 rec. 953 yds 8td
Moore’s first 27 games: 56 rec. 714 yds 4td

But Moore played as a freshman. Tears did not. Moore had the best QBs in NIUs history. Tears has had the worst.

I do think Moore was a better receiver than Tears his final year. But to me they are equal “talent wise” going into their final year.

Hmmm....Well, I'll give you this....Tears has potential to be as good but frankly he's hurt himself by not being the best of teammates.

Moore played with some other good WR's ( Ex: NaPalm) and thus the ball got spread around a bit more. Tears has indeed been the "tallest midget" in the WR pool.

The ball is in his court to be the guy like he was in the MACC...AND stay on the field.

Suffice it to say, not enough playmakers on offense. Hopefully the RS Freshman, Freshman or JUCO players step up. We need speed at WR. I would love to see a chart of plays over 30 yards for past 10 years. Last year had to be the fewest

I really hope the new staff is more creative in the run game. There's no doubt they lack talent at WR, but they're beyond loaded at RB and have a good set of tight ends.

I would argue the point that there are many playmakers on next years team. Yes an upgrade in coaching, but we are probably 2 years away from NIU having a high functioning offense again. Talent level needs pretty big upgrade and that will take this staff a year or two

Their talent on offense is fine lol. Offense line will be above average, RB group is elite, tight ends are good, WRs are below average.

They just don't have a QB.

Elite running backs? Below average WR and no QB and you think the offensive talent is fine?
