This kid’s stats are pretty impressive:
“Threw for 3,945 yards and 47 touchdowns this past season while adding 325 and six TD’s on the ground.”
He is a little on the shorter side at 5’11.5”, 170 lbs (might as well call him 6 foot in cleats) but still has plenty of time to grow and put on some weight.

I wonder what held him back from getting some bigger name offers. Regardless I’m happy to have him and see that we continue to expand our recruiting footprint.

On an unrelated note, looks like Moorehead State may be rebranding their athletics logo. I notice while looking at his 247 offer list. They swapped the eagle out for a blue block M.

I’m not talking about P5’s. I’m surprised he didn’t get any FBS offers. Being class of 2020 he could still grow some and being 6’2” isn’t a requirement to be a good QB these days. It certainly helps but look at the recent Heisman winner and some starters in the NFL. Surprised some G5’s didn’t reach out is all I’m saying.

Impressive list of offers. He might be the biggest verbal so far for 2020.

Nice my old high school! McGee and Bolton from there also.

You're absolutely right, but how many times do players get slighted for their physical attributes? Look no further than JFM. There's no doubt to anyone he can play, but had to wait until the end of the draft to get picked. Why? Height. Had he been a few inches taller and exactly the same stats, he could have been a 2nd-3rd round pick.
It will constantly happen over and over and great players will continue to get overlooked.

We were fortunate to land an all-time player like jimmy Moreland because higher programs didn’t give him a shot due to his size. It happens all the time in FCS.

If Jimmy had those same stats at 6' he would have been a 1st round pick easily. They had Adderly from delaware rated as a potential first rounder and JFM was hands down a better player

Thanks for the update. Ricky Harleston was class of 2019, so I had noted him in the 2019 FB Recruiting thread. Someone noted he also had a South Carolina State offer. I'm not sure if he's a PWO at JMU.

hope Varner commits....the Twitter tea leaves seem to indicate he might be leaning our way but you never know with these things.

he's a DT from the 757 with FBS offers from Akron, Charlotte, CCU, ECU, Kent, Liberty and Temple.

hope we get him. that would be the 2nd or 3rd guy from the 757 for Cignetti. He is certainly putting a marker down in that talent rich area.

Yep rightly or wrongly, size bias is still out there. 5’10”-6’0” non triple option QBs in balanced or high passing offenses can occasionally be great, but in general will have a harder time being great than the 6’3”-6’6” guys.

Thinks its more of a gamble for a I-A to offer a scholly to a 5’11” QB than say a 6’4” one. 6’4” QB flops, oh well, it happens. 5’11” QB flops the HC is an idiot for waisting a scholly on a 5’11” QB..

I agree with you. Kind of amazing 1 inch can make that much difference. (that's what she said! 04-cheers)

From everything I've read over the summer during and since OTA's, barring injury or just total unlikely collapse, JF'nM is a lock to make the Skins' 53 man roster and will be counted on as a backup corner, possibly covering the slot in nickel/dime situations, and will see a lot of time in special teams initially.

Quinton Dunbar and Josh Norman will be the main starting corners. Dunbar is 6'2" FWIW and Norman is only listed as an inch taller than JF'nM at 6'0". JF'nM just needs to continue to shine. He's one injury away from potentially being a starter. And, Norman is entering year 4 of his 5-year contract. A pretty sizeable salary as well. If he doesn't perform well this upcoming season, the Skins likely will cut him after this season is over. He turns 32 in mid-December. Not bad though for a guy who was drafted in the 5th round from a school who played D1AA ball at the time (Coastal Carolina).

Thanks for the update. Love the list of offers. You know he has character and brains for the likes of the academies, Brown and Colgate in particular offering. Nice!

Center is the QB of the OL. Love to see a recruit with academy offers with Ivy/patriot offers. Clearly a smart recruit with good character.

Interesting tidbit from Madia's article about Potts' commitment:

"Potts said even though he doesn’t know any players on the Dukes’ football roster, it helped that he was able to talk with JMU softball player Lynsey Meeks, an Ohio native who trains at the same gym he does in their home state."

We have softball players helping to sell JMU to football recruits. How about that.

Good catch. And, if there was ever a student-athlete at JMU who bleeds purple with the most positive of attitudes, it is Lynsey Meeks.
