Seems like a lateral move if he was to leave. Don't know what his salary is but I doubt Memphis could pay much more than SDSU would.

We were paying Ball in the upper 300s. Pretty good for a non-p5 assistant.

Or we just Hire Dan Lanning back as Dc if Georgia Hires Glenn Schumann which is probably gonna happen as he was the first Assistant hired by Kirby Smart and one of the last 3 men in a room when at Alabama with Smart making the final game plan...And if it goes to Schumann then i could see Coach NOrvell give Dan Lanning the DC position to come back...Plus with the New TV Contract we should be increasing the Assistant pool even more...#The World Is Ours Memphis...

I'm a Tiger fan for life, but SDSU is every bit the program that Memphis is. They win on a regular season basis, have been to bowl games ten years in a row. They are in the very same boat as we are.

Eh, not these days.

They've never been ranked in the CFP rankings, whereas we've appeared two separate years in the 5 year history.

Average Sagarin ranking for the past 5 years, has us #44 while they are #63. Two of those years, they've finished in the 90's. #53 has been our worst finish.

Norvell makes $2.6M. Their coach gets $900k. We have $1M more in our assistants pool than they do. We lead all of G5 in coaches pay. They are #3 in the MWC.

It's irrelevant, but it would not be a lateral move. He could probably double his salary coming here. Ball made more than twice what he did last year.

I don't disagree that San Diego State, historically and even currently, isn't a better program than us (at least on par, currently anyway).

But we are in a better league, a far more visible league, and we certainly have more fan support and finances.

What makes us a better program RIGHT NOW is we pay quite a bit more money than they do. Even still, I wouldn't leave SDST to come to Memphis if I were an up and coming coach who is already getting attention. I would want to leap-frog to the next tier.
