JMU Night at Nationals Park 4/30/19
A Tuesday night, terrible date, IMHO. I got about 20 people from last year ready to chip in and rent a party bus for this year's game but no way that's happening for a Tuesday night game during the school year.

I agree a Tuesday night is a terrible night if you want to get a good turnout. I wonder if this is what the Nationals gave JMU or if JMU requested a promo date that was prior to the 5/15 deadline for Football season ticket orders. The reason I question it, is the JUM email about this event says it is in conjunction with the Duke Club Spring Tour says "come and meet members of JMU Athletics Staff including coaches and administrators". Maybe JMU thinks getting the new football coach out there with an event at Nats Park will give more people the chance to meet Coach Cig and also increase excitement for the new season and also increase Duke Club contributions and season ticket sales.
I don't agree with that line of thinking if that is what JMU did. I can't see a huge turnout on a Tuesday night - just not a good night for most working folks.
To give you an idea of other schools nights:
WVU - Fri. April 12th
UVa - Fri. June 14th
W&M - Fri. July 26th - REALLY? they get a Friday night?
Radford - Fri. Aug. 16th - REALLY? they get a Friday night?
GMU - Fri. Sep. 27th - (We have FB game @ Elon the next day) - probably not a good date
U o MD. - Mon. June 17th
VCU - Sat. July 27th
American U - Thurs. June 13th
Georgetown - Wed. Sept 25th
Howard U - Tues. Apr. 16th
George Wash U - Tues. Sep 3rd
JMU - Tues. Apr. 3oth !!!!!
No way that W&M and Radford should be getting a Friday night game over us. I can't believe those 2 schools would have a better turn out than JMU. Maybe the Nat's are looking to fill the stands on a Tuesday night or JMU specifically requested the date they got. I'd like to know what the reasoning was for this.
Anyone on here heard anything about why we got a Tuesday night rather than a Friday night?

Such a bummer! We always do this as a family thing, hard to do on a Tuesday and kids about to take finals. Very disappointed!

So people have to eat their tickets, have trouble getting the hat and watch it get rescheduled a month later for a Monday at 1pm?

It rained out last year and I didn't eat my tickets, had no trouble getting my hats, and went to a Sunday at 1pm game. The guy from the Nats who does the 'college night' upgraded our seats to behind home plate and gave us $90 in food credits, too.

Just because it worked out for you doesn’t mean everyone else had the same flexibility. When they don’t issue refunds, some people ate their tickets.

If your schedule was so inflexible that the one and only date you could make a Nationals baseball game was 7/21/18 at 7pm and your schedule was so incredibly packed that you could not attend even 1 of 20+ other home baseball games over the next 2.5 months and also chose not to exchange your tickets for a later game to sell them on one of the half a dozen options available, then you chose to eat your tickets.

I'd say it's a good choice if they're trying to attract younger alumni in the immediate area. Weeknight games are well attended by the younger crowd in DC which is where a lot of us have been heading after graduation in recent years.

So true - me and the other younger alumni prefer week nights.

RE: JMU Night at Nationals Park 4/30/19
The Nats are using these college promotion events as a way to help their overall ticket sales. They historically have better attendance on the Fri/Sat/Sun games whereas weeknight games draw a smaller crowd. Why put a promotion that they know would draw a large crowd on a night when they already have higher attendance? If they put it on a weeknight it helps sell otherwise unsold tickets and doesn't impact their high attendance nights. JMU typically has one of the larger participation rates of these games so it make sense to put it on a night when they are expecting low attendance to try and boost their numbers. Look at the schools they are doing midweek... all are local (except for VCU) and can help draw larger crowds mid week.
