Now just hope he runs a clean race. Seems like the kid can’t catch a break. I think he will get a few top 5’s this season.

Should have been higher.

Currently in 19th place, but only 4 points out of 16th place for that final playoff spot. The Hendrick cars are beginning to look better.

Started 7th and finished 20th.
His 3 teammates all finished Top 6.
He was fast early and just faded... and faded... and faded

Will “The Thrill” Byron became the youngest driver to ever win the pole position for the Coca-Cola 600 at his home track in Charlotte, driving the 24 Liberty Chevy.

Well, he snuck into the Top 10 with a 9th place finish. He looked good in the first two stages but not so much as the track cooled.

RE: William Byron-NASCAR-Liberty U.
The good news is because he ran strong and fast up front all night in or near the Top 10, led the race, and won the pole..... he is now in 15th place for the Championship Standings and in position to make the NASCAR playoffs.

RE: William Byron-NASCAR-Liberty U.
From the 400 miler at Michigan:
Started: 21st
Finished: 18th
Championship Playoff Position: 14th (only 16 make it)
Lead a lap or two. Raced into the Top 10 at the end of Stage 2. Was 13th heading into overtime.
William is not very good on restarts. It has cost him all season.

SONOMA, CA Road Course
Well, that was a weird race.

Byron started on the outside of the first row and immediately took the lead. He lead going away and finished first at the end of the first stage. He finished third in the second stage. Some different pit strategy put him in 20ish position to start the final stage. He worked his way up inside the top 10 but slowly faded to 19th at the finish. He collected some good points on the day, but it was a disappointing finish. Pit strategy didn’t work and they must have set the car up for the short runs.

CHICAGO:

-Byron qualified well but had to change out his engine before the race sending him to the rear of the field. In the first 11 laps he moved up 16 positions before a rain delay.
- He finished Stage 1 running 8th. He powered his way to 1st, leading several laps, before finishing 7th at the end of stage 2.
- He finished the race in 8th.
- He is solidly inside the Playoff Top 16 right now, moving up from 14th to 12th.

I don't watch NASCAR, but I was tracking updates on Twitter. Gotta say, I was highly impressed with how he did.

It definitely was a solid effort on his end.

DAYTONA:
Rain shortened race. Byron had to start at the back of the field after being wrecked in practice by another driver.
He finished Stage 2 in 3rd place.
He finished the race in 2nd place, his best ever finish.
Had the remaining 33 laps been run, he had a very strong chance to win.
He is trending upward.

KENTUCKY:
William was running 2nd with about 30ish laps to go, trying to find a way around the leader. Byron’s #24 was faster, he just couldn’t pass. Then a caution came out. During the restart, William got on the gas a little early and crossed the start line before the race leader, resulting in a penalty, resulting in him falling to 30th. He was able to work his way back up to 17th as laps wound down, finishing 18th. I think he let another one go that he could have won.

A second place finish in a rain shortened race is a good finish for Byron. It would have been fun to have seen the last 30 or so laps run and how he would have done. That is usually when the racing gets the craziest with more risk by drivers and more wrecks.

POCONO:

William Byron qualified the #24 Liberty U. car 8th but was sent to the rear of the field for failing inspection and started 31st.

He finished the face a strong 4th. He currently sits comfortably at 12th in playoff points. The top 16 drivers make the playoffs.
