watching sampson post game, he basically says it took a while to figure out but he did at the end of the game...he says size was the difference, we started guarding cumberland with our best defensive players, but they were 6'0..
he said the game changed when we put size on him, that his shooting percentages went down when we put height on him, and his driving numbers when down when you put weight on him (sampson notes he likes to muscle you on the 1st step)..next game hinton/cedrick will likely be guarding him .. and that means corey and galen wont be in foul trouble
while on the other hand i dont think UC has figured out houston yet...watch cronins pregame and post game comments..every thing he said they had to do to win, they did and still lost... he said the key was stopping armoni and corey shooting, repsectbale rebounding numbers and making shots..they did and still lost
and uc fans are saying theyll put a taller player on jarreau, all your tall players were occupied..what are you going to do remove williams from guarding corey ...so corey can go light it up from 3?
looking forward to the chess match next game
If Houston is as physical with Cumberland at UC as they were down the stretch of that game he'll shoot 20 free throws. It was a good strategy in a home game, but the way he got them leaning and got them in the air to draw contact late I don't think it works on a neutral court, much less a true road game.
I wish UC would have used Cumberland more as a passer down the stretch. He's been so great at that late in games all year and they were really playing him incredible attention and being so physical it was hard to finish. When it was obvious he wasn't getting any calls they needed to do something different and they failed. Can't go that long without scoring late. I feel good about the rematch, but good adjustment from Houston late.

I think Houston and athleticism around the rim surprised UC on the glass and defensively. Cumberland was blocked on a few attempts and you don’t see that very often. Granted a few could have been called fouls but you can’t expect to get all of those calls on the road.
Jarreau is a nice player. I expect UC will play with more size on the perimeter next time they match up. Broome is just too small.
Those last couple minutes are so different if Trevor Moore doesn’t miss that wide open lay up in the first half and brooks doesn’t get a garbage technical. I expect many of those calls that went against UC (shot clock violation not called, travel not called on jarreau, etc) will go UCs way in Cincinnati.
I left that game feeling that the separation between these two teams is minimal. I expect a UC win on senior day and hopefully another matchup in the conference tournament.
Yep. All of that is expected against good teams on the road. Both teams matched up extremely well together. Any rational fan knows advantage Cincy at UC.
Of course there’s no accounting for the opinions of blind UH homers like BC1...who live in their own bizzaro world. I mean, just look at the strange internet man love he shares with pesik.

I've seen at least one UC fan think that us losing to Temple on the road was worse than UC losing to ECU on the road, and that if UH and UC split and end up tied, that UC should get the #1 seed into the AAC tournament.

Umm put Trevor Moore/ Logan Johnson in and let Cumberland run the point.
Jarron definitely missed some shots down the stretch that he typically makes at a high clip. The length probably helped. I also think he was exhausted. Keith Williams gave UC nothing in the second half. Scott was largely terrible and Jennifer was MIA the entire game.
But it makes sense, secondary guys typically play better at home vs the road. I expect UCs secondary guys to play much better during the senior day finale.

A 1 or 2 seed in the AAC tourney is not much of an advantage one way or the other. 3 through 6 can give 1 and 2 fits.

You're making that up. And, as of now, Houston is the clear #1 seed. I suspect Houston will be on top at the end as well.
In terms of tie-breakers, in case UC wins and the two end up tied (of course, either could lose another game), the tie-breaker after head-to-head is record against the next best team and on down the line. If I'm reading that correctly, if UC and UH do end up tied, UC would win the tie-breaker because we would have had a better record against Temple. That seems completely backward.

defense is a thing.. their height and defense was the sole reason this game was even close...williams guarded corey, after williams block the corey's 3 in the 2nd half, corey didnt take anymore shots...
and scott guarded armoni who just had his worst shooting night of the season..it exploited armonis lack of top level agility (that guards normally have to get past bigs)

I agree. That’s basically how it works out. But it is what it is. And has always been as long as I remember. Even in the Big East. And he’s referring to me. I made the point how understanding this, UC has the #1 seed tie breaker advantage.

Btw...just look at CFB. Cincy has shared conference titles and lost the better Bowl based on this same process.

A 1 or 2 seed in the AAC tourney is not much of an advantage one way or the other. 3 through 6 can give 1 and 2 fits.
Agreed. Just stating that people aren't just making up the whole Cincy would get the 1 seed thing.
The tie-breaker rule is kind of dumb as it sits as it appears to reward losing to a worse team.
I agree. That’s basically how it works out. But it is what it is. And has always been as long as I remember. Even in the Big East. And he’s referring to me. I made the point how understanding this, UC has the #1 seed tie breaker advantage.
Then you were correct, and he took your comment out of context. No one would argue that losing to Temple is a worse loss than ECU. But when it comes to seeding, it oddly is.......

RE: Sunday (2/10) AAC Basketball Games
also i think its funny that uc fans think all the good that happened in this game will be the exact same @ UC..but non of the bad will follow..and thats why they'll win
this was one of the best shooting nights of the season for UC..considering caliber of opponent, tulsa @home was likely the only better shooting game all season in 24 games
im sure you guys are expecting those multiple NBA level 3s to be automatic again next game, like this one
