They’ll do a bridge extension. Deja vu - the Buffalo stunner buys another year.

We need to have a reality check.

There is no way NIU can compete financially with a Big East program.

According to data Villanova reported to the U.S. Department of Education, its men’s basketball team, which plays in the Big East conference, generated $11.4 million in revenue on expenses of $9.4 million.

Marquette and Villanova utilizes a private jet for recruiting. NIU has access to rental cars.

NIU basketball recruiting budget a coupe of years ago was $45,000. ISU was at $116.000.

Good read on recruiting budget on the big boys and us. Private schools are not included.

Yeah if we’re being honest we’re 8th/9th in the state pecking order for MBB with UIC.

Even with all the defections and losses over the past few season, I really thought that we had a chance to maybe even make the semis in the tourney this year (yes, biased), but now, please, let’s just do the right thing.

And everyone, let’s go out there and support the women....despite injuries they are very competitive, have a likeable bunch and are really fun to watch because they really do play hard.

RE: German Suspended
What did German do to get his license suspended? Then he got caught twice driving around town after that. How did the coaches and the AD not know German's licensee was suspended?

It reminds of Kansas with a player driving a new Charger and Self is not asking any questions about a brand new $40,000 car until the school newspaper reports it.

Sometimes coaches and the AD just look the other way even at NIU.

Let's start the reality check by not making a comparison to a Big East program, be it Marquette or Villanova!.

We need to compete financially with MAC programs, the Horizon or the Summit League. Hell I'd settle for being competitive against the MAC West Division.

Recruiting a target-rich backyard like Chicago and the suburbs doesn't necessitate a private jet. It's primarily about establishing relationships with high school programs within driving distance.

"Not that it means anything, but I project NIU out to a 9-9 record and a 6 seed. Still hosting a home first round game! Of course, this 9-9 projection does not take into account German's absence."

Is German even coming back?
We are 2-6 over the last 8 games. And 5 of those were home games.
4 of 7 remaining games are on the road and 3 of those road game teams we have already lost to at home!
Assuming IF we win all 3 homes games (and that is a big IF given BGSU is one of them) we'd have to win 2 road games!
NIU will have to play well to finish 8-10. 7-11 is a real possibility. And that is with German.

Donte Thorpe will be in court on February 19th for driving 21-25 over speed limit. German wascited by NIU police on January 17th for driving without insurance. He then was cited by Dekalb police on February 4th for driving without insurance and driving with a suspended license. So Stupid it’s funny!

lol, goodness, it's not even juicy/exciting stuff (I'm joking around, this is a lesser evil), but man it's just so stupid.

You could tell something was not right with the chemistry of this team lately by just watching Bradley. He really seems like a different player right now, a certain disinterest I cannot remember from him before. The way this is falling apart reminds me a little of Alford's last days at Iowa

NIU mb. 2018-2019 is a mirror image of Nebraska basketball 2018-2019. Head coach is a fine person but lacks any authority with the players. No identity of a team. Minimal offensive concepts and individuals with their own agenda.

With that being said Tim Miles will be the NIU head coach next season. Yeeeesh. [/code]

At the Toledo game it looked like maybe 5 students in the student section. Just no energy at all for MBB. I would like to say I knew of a great prospect that would bring energy to the program. Hopefully STF can make such a find when the time comes.

The time to have moved on from Monty was after the 2014-15 season when his overall record was 39-84 (.317) and his MAC record was 22-46 (.324) after four seasons. It was virtually impossible not to do better than Ricardo Patton.
In 2015-16, thanks to the single worst schedule in Huskie men's basketball history, Monty managed to go 21-13 and post his best MAC record of 9-9 followed by NIU wasting money buying a slot in the Vegas 16 --- the Fyre Festival of college basketball tournaments.
Everything since then -- meaning up to the present -- has just been a slight elevation of the initial mediocrity; to date: 100-145 (.408) / 49-84 (.368). Nothing in these eight years has truly merited an extension.

I think it was too soon in 2014, given the complete lack of talent he inherited from Patton. It looks like what we have this year is as good as it's going to get though. Our best players continue to have trouble staying on the court, or they transfer. I'm not optimistic we'll win more than a couple games the rest of the way.

One website showed him at 1,359 points which is 9th all-time.

Bye bye Monty. Would love to see the list of candidates to replace Monty. Jerrance Howard please.

I will say there is at-least a foundation now. Couldn't say the same about Patton.

Monty wasn’t a disaster. He took over a legit bottom 50 program and it got better, but it’s time.

62423dp, actually the Nebraska comparison with NIU is spot on. Nebraska under Miles has been a lot like NIU under Monty except NIU hasn’t had the benefit of any good crowds over Monty’s tenure.

True. The fans still pack PBA for games. Miles did get them to the tourney once. Still not sure how that even happened.

I would say Monty seems a helluva lot more mature for a head coach than Miles. He’s just a clown that somehow put together some solid mid major seasons and got the media to push him toward a P5 job.

You could certainly argue that Monty would have an easier time, at least at home, if we were able to get more fans in there. The team hasn't been terrible since the first few years after Patton left. Decent enough to get more fans.
