I though I'd try and stir up a little bit of talk on here. It's been a while.

National Signing day has come and gone. Seems like our class ended up being pretty much on par. We had 4 commits that we beat out P5 schools for apparently.

What's everyone's thoughts on the class? Who's your favorite player so far?

Mine is probably the Juco TE we signed. Denzel Carter. 6'5" 260 lbs. Is a good blocker. Seems like a perfect fit for us and he has a big body. I think he'll make an immediate impact for us.

Sorry, real world gets hectic for the end of December through January for me.

Been slacking messing around on the big board. Definitely need to get some basketball talk going too. Lots going on all around right now.

I'm surprised a bit by this class. Monty is clearly in the hot seat but honestly it was a solid class that has some bright spots in it. I like that we continue to get solid kids from the local schools as well. Those relationships count big down the road when a kid is a late bloomer and when a player comes along and works their way up the recruiting rankings.

The TE is a good get.

My concern is not the talent level for this team, it's what we have done with or to the talent we have had. I hope Monty can pull it out but I have to say that even if he doesn't barring a mass exodus we have a very full cupboard for the next year or two.

If we can just get a QB in there that is closer to a Dane Evans and not a Cody Green it will make a world of difference. Better receiver play will help too. But the recruiting misses at Qb really killed us.

Chad just never had a good enough arm, and Skipper was decent but couldn't keep the ball out of the other team's hands. Boomer seems like he has the skill and talent to succeed but was just so young and inexperienced that he couldn't execute fast enough a lot of times.

Hopefully Smith can get the job done but that remains to be seen.

Back to recruiting, I love the size of Tyler Smith the OL. 6'5" 312. Hopefully he moves adequately qith the size. Could be great for us down the road.

I like the size of the DT from Union. We are getting a good mix of different players on the line for defense. I like the idea that a normal line sub pattern is going to ask opposing offensive lineman to have different skills to counter. Flexibilility is going to be a must defensively in this division going from triple option to wide open.

We do have an interesting Dline structure. I haven't paid enough attention to completely understand the rotations since the switch to a 3 man front but I think I'm gonna like it. Especially if they can hold up against the run a little better.

We kind of jigsaw puzzle piece it together. I think you'll see even more of that, with Young gone I think we'll gamble more, the defense seemed very interchangeable flexible in that it seemed rare for our guys not to know where they were suppose to be or what they were suppose to do in any given situation. Something we didn't see on offense.

It will be interesting to see if they can keep the effectiveness as new players/skill sets come in and have to fit into the scheme.

I heard some info 2nd hand the other day that originated from some sort of donor event that Monty was at. Supposedly he said the defense should be even better next season. Which sounds reasonable. But he had concerns about the O line. That makes sense as well considering the loss of 3 senior starters. It just stinks that the O line will drop off right when we finally get a qb who may finally be the guy we've been waiting on.

I like Monty but I'm not sure he is going to make it back from the San Jose St loss I expect. We have not been good on the road and won't bet it will change.

My only ray of sunshine right now is Graham didn't get offered a HC job somewhere and really makes too much to sit at home to take a pay cut for a DC job. I hope Monty puts it together but I have no faith in the qb messiah theory. I hope "well we just need an offensive line to keep him standing" excuse doesn't cut it. This is every bit his team in every way, so get it done or let's move on.
