Coach poaching?
Some discussion of the basketball coaching carousel, and some names in here that would be of interest to AAC fans...

Lol, Mick Cronin is not going to UCLA. He's got a young daughter here in Cincinnati-- if he would leave it would probably be for something nearby like Ohio State, Kentucky and Louisville--- and those jobs aren't opening up this year or probably anytime soon.

Yea mick laughed off the UCLA job.

They travel commercial for most games. Uc doesn’t even do that.

A lot more negatives to the job then people realize

As a Midwesterner, I long thought UCLA hoops was a big deal in Los Angeles. Then I worked for a California-based company for ten years and used to ask my colleagues in L.A. about the Bruins and got the impression the city does not support them any better (maybe worse) than urban schools with strong basketball tradition like Cincinnati, Louisville or Memphis. The pro teams come first by a mile there and then there's the split between UCLA and USC fans that divvy up the rooting interest even further.

RE: Coach poaching?
It would take ~5.2 Million for UCLA to just match base salary of Marshall.

That's not accounting for bonuses or the fact that UCLA fly commercial just about everywhere.

Not saying it wont happen, just very unlikely.

Right, it sounds like Wichita State can't do anymore than they are doing to keep Marshall. After that is just a personal decision and coaching at one of the historic basketball schools. Sort of like Memphis and Calipari, we offered more than Kentucky but he left anyway.

I think the message is that it's VERY unlikely to happen. Lot of downsides to UCLA. Plus Pac-12 isn't exactly moving up in the conference world.

RE: Coach poaching?
These articles crack me up. Marshall and Cronin's names come up every year, and the people who write about it have no clue about the people involved and their personal motivations. As mentioned above, Mick is not moving across the country while his daughter is still in school unless his ex-wife is willing to move out there as well.

RE: Coach poaching?
PAC 12 and the west coast's lack of interest in college sports would hinder my decision to leave a program like Cincinnati. I would include Wichita in that sentence at the present time. The reason being you are seeing a societal shift on the west coast, that isn't even as extreme in the northeast. Interesting times out west for once proud programs. Not to mention the PAC 12 Network is not yielding the revenue they hoped it would. It's not on basic sports packages like the SEC Network, BIG Network, and soon to launch ACC Network. Bob Dylan wrote a song one time, but Ron Burgundy never heard that song. I wonder if the PAC 12 is aware of its existence too?
