RE: The Green New Deal
Seems like AOC and co. tried to mask straight up, full-fledged communism as their "green new deal", and are now, with the help of the washington post and others, trying to gaslight people into forgetting what they saw on her website with their own lying eyes.

FYI, pay equity has nothing to do with pay equality, the so-called and debunked "gender pay gap".

It means you have no right to make more as an engineer than someone who works at wal-mart. Everyone makes the same. Seriously.

I’m okay with that, BUT.

I’d rather see people with a welders torch, or a nail gun, or a trowel, than see anyone more say”learn to code”.

Some we’ve got plenty of, many we got few of.

And who are we expecting to do this “infrastructure plan?

The beardchinniny coders?

Have they ever hoisted a hammer? Or would hey even know what one was?

This. There is an absolute arrogance amongst many with meaningless college degrees towards those in the trades. It is a shame, as a kid can earn a good living and avoid a lot of corporate bull**** by learning a trade that pays the bills. We need more.

Architect's POV:

1. The lack of quality subcontracting work will inflate wages in the short term.

2. In the long term, you'll see Architects and Engineers just change the way that we build in order to compensate for this. Modular construction will be what pushes trade wages back to the point of reason.

3. Universities should just have a proper trades program. Potential plumbers should be able to do their work-study side by side with their law school buddies. Trades - done correctly - do take a serious amount of effort and time to get right.

Here in North Carolina partnerships are forming statewide between community colleges, high schools, and employers to promote and recruit students for trades. I know the community college in my area has a certification program for welding and kids can come out with little debt and a job waiting for them making $50,000+. Many employers will pay for additional college courses as a benefit of employment.

Most of those that are on the far left discount trades as menial work that requires no skill, but that's because they have no idea what goes into it.
I've had friends that were electricians and plumbers and I was aware of how had of a job it was... I never really knew how hard until I decided to restore/rebuild a +100 year old house.

It's not like every Liberal Arts major has the brains to become a STEM student. I certainly am not and I admit that I was a Lib. Arts student in get this, social work. You see in those studies it's mostly theoretical and not a proven science like what is in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering. Can you imagine a bridge by a liberal arts student or an aircraft, or a Lib Arts major operating on you, LOL.

I agree. For instance my son just got hired after a hiatus from the Marines, (he retired) and will receive as a novice $33.88 an hour to start doing the exact same thing he did in the Marines. That's a pretty good return on a trade.

It wasnt always this way. I knew naval fighter pilot and top gun instructor that was an english major. Colleges are soft now. They let practically everyone in and nurse them through a degree. Its so bad, many employers now require people to take the wonderlic and other iq and technical tests despite a degree.

That proposal is patently absurd, but ...

We are going to have to get used to the reuse of treated sewer effluent for at least some of the purposes for which we now use potable water, such as toilet flushing, yard watering, and others--or else we are going to run out of water. California is already in trouble. They need a combination of reuse of effluent plus desalinization of seawater (which fortunately works pretty well for them because 3 of their 4 major metro areas are on the coast, and the 4th has areas that are at or below sea level so not much lifting is required). Whether we will ever get to the point that we accept treated effluent as potable water is questionable, but someday we may have no choice.

Just because California has trouble doesn't mean the rest of the country does. Except for Atlanta (which has neglected resevoirs like it neglected its roads), the east is in very good shape.
