As far as receivers go, Tears looks ready to break out, Tyrice Richie will help immediately, last year's freshmen have a year under their belts and a new crop of exciting freshmen arrives this summer. The guys who graduated, although they played hard and we appreciate their efforts, were average. The receiver corps has a chance to be a lot better than last year. We also have three tight ends in Daniel Crawford, Mitch Brinkman and Corey Lersch who can get downfield and catch the ball. At QB this is the year that Childers either gets consistent or gets replaced. There's a lot to like with Childers and I'm pulling for him. He's tough, can extend plays with his feet and never complains when he's getting killed in the backfield (see UAB game). But now is the time for him to take the next step. We have other options available and this coaching staff does not have the investment in Childers that the previous one did. I have to believe that if he's having one of those games where they go three and out nine straight times this staff will give someone else a shot. So one way or another we should see improvement there. This team has everything it needs to compete for a MAC championship, let's get it.

Childers has mastered the bounce pass.
Dude. I get it. I was hoping Childers was an average or better MAC qb but he wasn't. And I'm hoping he improves tremendously. But what good does your comment do? We are all on the positive side of things with the new season and coach. No need to bring us down.

If not Childers then who would you play?

81 - Pro coaching helps most in passing game. I agree with you we will see dramatic improvement there. Just improve the route running, got so sick of rounded routes last year that would be huge. Identify the D for QB will increase confidence. We missed that QB coach who left us early in the Carey years and was a Kill carryover. If players are willing to take to the new coaches we will see improvement there.

I think -- no, hope -- the spring game April 20 will be one of the best attended in a long time. If this board is any indication, the excitement and anticipation meters will be off the charts. Plus, some things will be indicated and some will be revealed. Plenty to talk about 'tween then and Aug. 31.

I have some connections with the Mexican government. For security purposes, I will inform them that you are coming and to lock up all liquor.

I am not close enough to the program to know if we have a better option though I do hope that we do. Childers does seem like a fine person and a fierce competitor so I wish him nothing but the best. He just has not shown the ability to play consistently well at this level. Perhaps he will improve with our new coaching staff.

Yes, last year he surprised with his arm strength as he was either the strongest or right there with Childers. I'm hoping he bulked up a bit as he seemed slim. He is not the tallest of QBs. He will be interesting to watch this spring.

I watched it. He comes across as a very nice man.
I think we will recruit better if he can talk to the parents.
