I could conceivably see splitting the difference, i.e., Bennett tells Hopson, “OK, you can go ahead and bring him in and listen to what he has to say, but only if I get the chance to do my own due diligence on him and retain veto power.” If that’s the way it went down, though, why not just say so? How much additional face does Bennett really save by concocting the “I didn’t know” narrative?

Exactly! People act like they know what happened but then they disappear and when asked if they know for a FACT what happened. Either you know, or you don't know. Please tell us, all knowing ones.

How's this for FACT - Another classic TTT moment. Southern Miss is stuck in an infinite loop of stupidity.

I just got off the horn with one of the above....

he won't commit career suicide....it falls under the 'no shite' category...

I can't be more specific....not even on this board...

I can tell you this....our arguments ended amicably....

____

my biggest issue is it never should've became public.....

it doesn't matter if the deal was done beforehand or not....if it was, you sign and deal with this social media dipshites as req'd.... ref: LE

regardless, when Bennett found out. AND HIS FINAL POSITION WOULD KNOWINGLY EVOLVE INTO TODAY'S RESULT, then he should've put his foot DOWN IMMEDIATELY AND SAID, "NO!"

I can't come up with a scenario that doesn't expunge Bennett....

either way, he's a wide open quim that is not worthy of his position at USM...

Stink if one of your sources says confirming/disprovin the Bennett lie/non-lie is career suicide on their end, then there's something wrong on the reporter's end... I thought their job was to report on USM athletics and questionable happenings.

God this is starting to sound like that Thames story all over again..

Nah, man, I’m not asking you to reveal anything here. Hell, I want people to say LESS here and direct what they claim to know somewhere where it might actually make a difference.

Now, as far as your journalist friend who won’t take the story because telling the truth might get him in trouble...well, I got nothin’ except he obviously needs a new career anyway.

we can easily agree that the life of a today's journo is much different than the degrees 'earned' in the 70's...

RE: What if Hop is Fired?
I understand when they asked that JC running back why he wanted to get back into football, he said he "wanted to take another stab at it".....Bad choice of words and bad recruiting choice for Hop.

Despite what ya might think of the Hop/Bennett standoff, don't you think at YOUR job, if you were potentially hiring someone with "suspect" credentials, your owners/boss would wanna know about it BEFORE the interview?

That being said, a little disappointed we did not hire Briles and greatly disappointed hiring an OC has turned into such a big deal.

By the by, I got my Journalism degree in 1976, as a part of my well-rounded USM edumication....and while we probably disagree WHERE Journalism is failing today, we agree it IS failing....and if you watch the film "Network" (ya know, the one with "I'm as mad as hayell and I'm not gonna take it any more"), Director Sydney Lumet hit a grand slam concerning the direction of Journalism.

that was my original point.....it's the OC.....

we're not talking about the HC....

regardless, the chain of command is in disrepair....there's no fk'n way bennett didn't know ahead of time...I'll take that one to my grave....

I have a friend who recently graduated from OM with a degree in Journalism. He said his professors consistently preached that it was far more important to be the first with the story than to get all the facts right. My friend said he questioned those professors, saying that that's not good journalism and he was met with stares like he was a madman.

That's the state of journalism today. He graduated last year btw.

Well, journalists get the facts RIGHT a lot more than they get them WRONG, and getting the story "FIRST" is not exactly a creation of the 2010's.....my problem is the
merging of the entertainment division with the news division, where the "journalist" feels your pain and takes sides. This has led to a FOX News and an MSNBC News that tells each side side what they wanna hear.

Now, hearing a "journalist" tellya what ya wanna hear might be soothing to the mind, but it creates a viewership that is misinformed and easier to manipulate.

So...If he was saying they are teaching "you need to be the first one on the story, THEN be right, second", that is plausable but wrong.....If he is saying they teach "you need to be first on the story, no matter if you lie or not", that is guaranteed BULLSH!T.

He said his professors consistently preached that it was far more important to be the first with the story than to get all the facts right. My friend said he questioned those professors, saying that that's not good journalism and he was met with stares like he was a madman.

That's the state of journalism today. He graduated last year btw.

Riiiiiiiight.

Believe what you want. I'm telling you what he told me. Graduated from Ole Miss last year. He said that attitude toward being first > being right was in every single class he took.

So...If he was saying they are teaching "you need to be the first one on the story, THEN be right, second", that is plausible but wrong.....If he is saying they teach "you need to be first on the story, no matter if you lie or not", that is guaranteed BULLSH!T.

you never divulge the source or post 'rhetoric as fact' unless they're willing to put their cods on the clothesline.....

....and I never 'dinkled' in journo099 03-wink
