The Golden Flashes head to the JAR to take on the once mighty Akron Zips on Friday. The game will bebroadcast on ESPNU, which is odd because Akron has the sixth highest win total in the conference.

You do have to give Akron credit, though. After an incident which led to one Akron player being arrested and another needing reconstructive surgery, John Groce and company have kept their heads above water in the MAC.

It appears that some in Akron have figured out that slowing down Jaylin Walker may be a key to success on Friday. Because I couldn't name one player on Akron's roster, I won't bother with keys to victory. I will, however, point out that regardless of Friday's outcome, the Akron program is still searching for that elusive win in the NCAA tournament. Until then, programs like Buffalo, Cleveland State and Wofford demand more of our time and attention.

Interesting stat. Kent is 2nd in the country behind Princeton on kenpom's "luck" rankings. Those rankings are interesting because early in the season it can be an indicator of teams who aren't as good as their record, but at some point it just becomes a good way of telling how good a team is in the clutch.

It's explained as the deviation between a team's actually winning percentage and their expected winning percentage based on how he calculates expected winning percentage. Ultimately in our case we're 17-5 but on average only outscore our opponents by 4. So being high in that ranking shouldn't be a surprise.

How is Peterson nearly through his third season and still looks like he has no idea what to do when the ball ends up in his hands?

The lead ref in tonight’s game - I have no idea who he is - but he must have a deep, personal vendetta against KSU. He couldnt foul Whittington to the bench fast enough.

Yeah anti. Peterson is awful on offense. Thank goodness he hustles and gives an occasional hard foul. Akron really stinks at basketball. I sure hope Kent State can win this game.

We gotta do a better job of drawing up plays to get Walker space. We're expecting him to go one on one and create a possession out of nothing way too much. It's really hard to watch.

I don’t mind losing - even to them - what I do mind is when players wearing KENT STATE on their jerseys just flat out quits. KSU quit tonight. Flat out quit. And that is horseshit.
