It’s official. No football at Little Rock
Spent 18 months and $125,000 for study that had very similar numbers to what I figured up in about an hour.

It's not reliable unless you pay a bunch of money.

Why bother? Now that we know they get some of the football money regardless if they have football or not.

Not a bad investment. Keeps the league from having the start-up team blues for five or more years.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained, but I agree with UALR’s administration on this issue.

Administrators pay a bunch of money so they can shield themselves behind the consultants, "It's not us saying it. It's those consultants!!"
Then the consultants leave town, and the issue is dead and buried.

I stand behind my believe that UALR and UTA should both get the boot.

I don't know if I should say it, but this is a realignment board: I have to believe that the ORU athletic department has to be tired of 13, 14, 15 hour bus rides to Fargo in the winter. But they really don't have anywhere else to go- a southern plains school stuck in a northern plains conference. Could they put together a conference on the southern plains of other 1-AAA orphan schools in football conferences?

ORU, UALR, UTA, TAMU-Corpus Christi, Univ New Orleans. Add: UMKC (if not happy in WAC & still pissed at Summit), UTRGV (if they don't add football), Houston Baptist (if they give up on football- not happening), Dallas Baptist (if want to move up from d2)

Of course, with no autobid to the NCAA tournament it is only a hypothetical question. But it probably should happen for the sake of those kids on the long bus rides. The NCAA is all about what's best for the student/athletes, ya know.

I've thought that group would make for a good conference too. I don't know that Southland schools with football (Hou Bapt) who would go for it.

ORU was in the Southland for a hot minute (2012-2014) so i'm not sure what happen with that...

That should have been the route the WAC went:

UTRGV (née UTPA)
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
UALR
UMKC
Oral Roberts
Texas-Arlington
New Mexico State
Denver

Seattle would have never had been invited in 2011, much less CSU Bakersfield, Grand Canyon, Utah Valley, Chicago State, Cal Baptist, and Dixie State down the line.

Without Denver and Oral Roberts in the Summit, the Summit likely starts making adds of last resort. Seattle would still be in the league today; CSU Bakersfield would have likely been replaced by Utah Valley. Even Chicago State or NJIT could have received an invitation depending on timing.

Well they went to a football conference and the basketball is worse than the Summit....so it could be that.

Since they are in Tulsa, they could join the WAC since they are in a large metro area with pretty good access to flights. I guess it depends on how much exposure they want. With GCU and now Cal Baptist add to the WAC they could want to join those schools with religious affiliations. However, I guess it depend on the direction the WAC is planning with the addition of Dixie St.

Always liked ORU to the WAC but could the Sin City be the dealbreaker for Oral Roberts?

ORU forfeited a conference basketball game because the Southland completely botched its transition of the schools coming from Division II, so that could have been the last straw.

You have to remember that when Seattle was added to the conference they still had Idaho, Utah St, and SJSU so they were looking to build a western based FBS conference that stretched into Texas and Louisiana. They were hoping to lure some programs like Montana, Montana St, and the 3 CA schools who play Big Sky football into the mix. They weren't planning on losing FBS football or shifting the whole footprint east. There's also the matter of luring those schools over when their current conferences were geographically friendlier.

They also wanted to go to divisional play and ORU was going to be forced into a division with C Ark and the LA schools, which ORU was not pleased with as it meant longer travel or very little Texas presence.
