RE: Cities That Should Have an NFL Team
Another city like Chicago or Houston would get a second team before most teams on this list get the first one.

Maybe NY will get one soon. Rimshot

RE: Cities That Should Have an NFL Team
Would pretty much make this whole thread laughable if the Raiders are able to come in to Legion Field for 4 home games in 2019.

No, it wouldn't mean that we could sustain an NFL team here but it would mean that Montgomery has no impact on whether or not we could get a team here.

It also would make the amateur hour of professional football featuring former Alabama & Auburn players look ridiculous.

What kind of deal would B'ham have to make to entice the Raiders to come to Legion Field? Rent free? All parking and concession income? Breaking even on costs may be the best deal to be hoped for?

BTW - A one year "passing through" deal would not prove anything about the power of the state over the city. That is in the Constitution of 1901.

Move it to California

They had an offer to play at UNLV's stadium but turned it down because it's too far away from their practice facility near Oakland. They didn't want to play at Levi's Stadium in San Jose because it was too far away from Oakland.

There are a thousand reasons why the Raiders won't play in Birmingham and 999 of them have nothing to do with Legion Field

They are promoting themselves as a minor league essentially. I’m not sure what exactly you were expecting from it. I also think there are a handful of players from bama and auburn on that squad, and one of the most we’ll know was inactive for the game.

RE: Cities That Should Have an NFL Team
So, turns out that no one at the city knows anything or has talked to anyone about anything. Larry Langford's Olympic bid was more thought out than this

https://www.al.com/news/2019/02/birmingh...iders.html

Quote:City Council President Valerie Abbott pressed Mayor Woodfin for details on Councilor William Parker’s plan because “I haven’t found a council member who knows anything,” saying she first heard of her colleague’s idea last week from a press release.

But Woodfin said he was similarly blindsided.

“I’m unable to communicate anything to you about a proposal, so I couldn’t articulate it to you,” the mayor told Abbott at Tuesday’s council meeting. “There has been nobody on our team that has talked to the Raiders organization, so there’s nothing I can tell you because I don’t know.”

And the Raiders are likely going to play one more season at their stadium in Oakland, anyway

More than a handful right now of their players & certainly will grow each season.

The Iron looks like the Raiders but a better team.

I wonder how long it will be before some NFL team pirates the Iron's QB.

In my Blazer pipe dream, Bham gets an NFL team and steals Saban to coach it. Double hammer to T-Town

Novak who played for various teams in the NFL looks like he could play some more in the future there. Unless he is a really older fellow.

That is a good pipe dream, but Saban probably would say "Been there; done that". Besides, why would he settle again for one first round draft choice of 7 while he is getting 24 of 25 (ESPN Top 300 recruits) at Bama. He also (like all other FBS FBHCs) gets to keep the best 85 each year instead of about 50.

It's pure fantasy and 0% either would ever happen

Perhaps the greatest threat to the Iron is pirating from their coaching staff. Winning with a shutout in pro ball is special. If they keep winning that way, NFL owners may soon come knocking on the Iron's door.

That is a true possibility. One game does not make a record, but if they keep winning that way, they will draw attention from NFL owners.
