In case you need a football fix after the NFL season, the new Alliance of American Football starts this weekend. I am not sure if all the games will be televised nationally, but anyone looking for some local flavor can cheer for Joel Bouagnon as he runs for the Salt Lake Stallions.

Hope he matches the success LeShon Johnson had for the Chicago Enforcers in the XFL. Any other NIU players in the AAF?

I did not see anyone else from NIU on the rosters.

Salt Lake plays 7pm Central Sunday on NFL Network. Looks like Bouagnon will back up Matt Asiata.

RE: AAF
Some major rules differences from the NFL include:

No kickoffs or extra point attempts. Teams must attempt two-point conversions. Possessions will start at the 25-yard line. There also are no onside kicks; instead, a team can attempt a play from scrimmage from their own 28-yard line and need to gain at least 12 yards.
No television timeouts.
A 35-second play clock (the NFL employs a 40-second play clock).
Coaches get two challenges; no challenges, however, in final two minutes of each half.
Overtime will be one possession for each team from their opponent's 10-yard line. No field goal attempts can be made.

Aboout the AAF

Interesting. I am not sure how I feel about the extra point rule. I like the choice of the safe points against more challenging points.

It was entertaining. Decent games. Will get better as they get more reps.

I agree. Decent games. Great to have more football. Enjoyed watching Bougnon continue his career.

ACRB looked slow as usual. He does not have that burst.

If this league sticks I could see some decent D1 players skipping college all together. Not a bad salary of a 3 year contract for $250,000. Make $80,000 a year to play football. If you are really good there is no penalty for the NFL picking you up. This could be a viable option for kids who don't want to play college but want professional experience.

They have no rules regarding age or anything? Its bill polian, hes a pretty conservative guy. I find that hard to believe.

Vinny MAC is couple years too late. His XFL will fail again.

I always wondered what ACRB meant with Joel? Can I get the skinny on that, please

Aurora Christian Running Back. People had trouble spelling his last name.

Excellent point and love this in so many regards ... there are a number of guys who have no business being on colllege campuses .... without diverting this thread to socioeconomic politics... what a great alternative to college ball for those guys with zero interest in school... really hope it succeeds

Check out Pacific Pro Football, a California operation being set up by Tom Brady's agent. That's the one football start-up that's actually looking to go that direction.

AAF seems pretty clearly to be set up as a post-college minor league. And the XFL 2.0 is the usual Vince McMahon vanity project.
