MyBB Basketball Rivalries in the AAC
Due to how young the conference is, not many legitimate rivalries have been able to develop on the hardwood yet, but there is a lot of potential to build on with the AAC's rising hoops profile.

Some of the current rivalries that come to mind.

Cincy vs. Memphis - Former CUSA rivals.

Cincy vs. UConn - Former Big East mates.

Houston vs. SMU - In-state

UCF vs. USF - In-state

Who do you consider to be your team's current rivals in the conference and who would you like to see a growing rivalry between (for your team or others)?

Agree with UConn and Memphis on the Cincy front. If I had to pick a 3rd, it would be Temple. We played them a ton in the '90s and our games with them in the AAC are always a war.

Used to be UCONN-UC until Ollie ruined it.

Now the only rivalry I tune in for is Tulane-ECU.

RE: Basketball Rivalries in the AAC
i dont think we have any natural rivalries beyond ucf/usf

ucf/usf just hate each other

tulsa/wichita have played against each other for decades ...if they were evergood at the same time there'd be bad blood

uc/memphis - when Memphis start winning, that will make this place unbearable

uconn/memphis- i think this will grow as the aac as the aac media darlings

smu/houston isnt a thing we've never been good at the same time

To add to the Temple thing, didn't realize we also had a nice series with them in the '70s and some games before that: https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/pla...=date_game

Those games in the '90s were great. Temple knocked off 3 really good Cincinnati teams to end the decade, including the #1 ranked 99-2000 team. We lead the series overall by quite a bit, but that's not indicative of how competitive the two teams have been in the modern era.

Funny thing, though, it's mostly just in football (and about a decade ago, in baseball). The basketball games are usually pretty tame, though the War on I-4 all sports thing is certainly adding meaning to every USF/UCF game in every sport...

(and yes, I'm fully aware that we've been getting our asses kicked in this pretty much since the trophy started...)

Forgot about this one. They are the two AAC schools closest to each other outside of UCF and USF.

As noted in the football rivalry thread, Temple-Cincinnati has possibilities as both basketball and football rivals.

I am not trying to be obtuse, I would consider UC v. Memphis, UC v. UConn and UC v. Temple as nice series', but for various reasons they are not rivalries (for any of the fan bases). UC's basketball rivals are Xavier and Louisville, even though we don't play the Cards right now. The former group of games lack the passion and pure vitriol thrown around from the later games. Yes, UC has had some good games over the years with the early group, but its just not the same.

Bearcat v. Pirates
Tiger v. Pirates

If ECU beats either team there is just month after month of attacks.

RE: Basketball Rivalries in the AAC
Tulsa-WSU were big time rivals in the 80's. Both teams were in the MVC. Both teams were really good. Both teams regularly battled each other for conference titles. I caught the tailend of that growing up in the 90's but Tulsa was good and WSU went bad and then Tulsa ended up leaving for the WAC.

Things have cooled substantially from a "rivalry" front IMO. There just isn't the hate there right now.

What about message board rivalries? Does that count?

Obviously if you're talking non-conference, UC wouldn't make UCONN's top 3 either. But the pickins are slim here in the AAC.

Havoc in the Heartland - TU vs WSU.

Like others said, it's not as fierce as even 15 years ago but it is still going. Hoping it will start picking steam back up.
