RE: @ Drexel (Thursday, Feb 7 - 7 PM)
The box score had Cylla taking 13 shots tonight which is the most on the team. If he's going to shoot, he should look for the elbow/FT range shot because that's his shot. Hawks need way more out of him than just shooting. And, it would have been good to see Fornes with more than 6 shots tonight.

Play the guys that play the right way. Sims and Gadsden always do and I'll put Fornes in there now along with Cacok and O'Connell. The rest of the guys do not consistently bust it the right way/play the right way and should fight for minutes to prove themselves. I like toughness and team play.

Suddenly Estime, Toews and Cylla are selfish and weak??

Is there anything left to talk about? IMO, this team is done. We MAY surprise someone and win one of our remaining games but it would be a surprise now. They are a defeated team and they play like a defeated team. We're on the road against teams who have something to play for to end the season and at home against the 1st and 2nd place teams. When we hit teams who can score(Drexel isn't one of them), we could very well see several blowout losses. We now have to finish 3-3 or we'll finish WORSE than last year. Anyone think we can go .500 with this schedule left? We all expected improvement with better players, a deeper bench and coach with a year under his belt to LEARN. We got none of that.

For those who didn't like the criticism early in the season, this is why there was criticism. If you don't fix your problems early, this is where you end up.

RE: @ Drexel (Thursday, Feb 7 - 7 PM)
Watched most of the second half. I don’t know what’s wrong but it seems like a lot. It was an awful shooting night for us but we don’t take great perimeter shots when we take them.

I don’t care to over analyze any more. Apathy is setting in as I feared. Unless Imaje Dodd and the incoming class are world beaters I don’t see how this gets any better next year without shaking the staff up. Just hate Cacok is going out like Rendleman did.

Agree with Bill on Cylla. He likes his three point shot WAY too much. He’s one of our most athletic guys with size and I’d like to see him get to the rim. CB gives him green lights all night. He has to be shooting a good bit under 30% from three.

Curious how you are coming to this conclusion? Scoring has not been an issue for Drexel. We are nearly a mirror of you guys minus having a dominate big. We score a lot. We just don't defend.

I don't think that's what he was saying. We all know Toews was sick and that makes it tough to play on any night in any atmosphere. Sometimes the offense flows on any team get sticky and someone puts up more shots than usual, etc. I wasn't able to see the game, but I do know Bill... and knowing Bill I don't think he'd ever call out our guys for being selfish/weak based on a single game sample size. Estime, Toews and Cylla are all players and we know when the offense is flowing the way it should they play it the right way on offense. I think Toews being sick was a bigger impact than we care to admit because right now he makes our guys click. You can see it. When he's locked in and on it really gets the other guys going. Gadsden is a great player too, but I think he plays better on offense getting his shots off the ball when Toews can set him up for open looks.

Gadsden needs to shoot more, Cylla needs to stop taking guarded long 2s and 3s.

Right, you are scoring 76.9 per game, and that came down a tick after last night.
We actually played a little D last night for once

First, I like all of the guys and they are all worthy of following because they are good guys. And, to me, that's the most important thing. They are first rate young men.

I brought up the guys that seem to be giving it their best on both ends lately. As long as you're getting deflections, diving for a loose ball, working hard to stop your man (in man) on direct drives, helping and perhaps boarding the ball, I'm good. On offense, the guys look better when they're passing the ball and not needlessly dribbling the ball with 3 looks coming from inside out. I like All of our guys and many of them are underclassmen so it's understandable. And, if you're sick/hurt, it's really tough. Gotta go, but I like all of the guys and they represent the school well regardless of the score.

I don't think anyone has questioned how they represent UNCW. There is some top of the conference talent on this team, even beside DC15. Yes, they're young so it is understandable that they've struggled... to an extent. However, let's not sugarcoat it, this season has absolutely been a disappointment if they don't miraculously turn it around. I'm not saying they can't do it but with the schedule that remains, I'm not optimistic. My disappointment is not in any of the players, it's in the coaching staff. We're almost at the end of season 2 for McGrath and I don't see the vision of what he expects his program to be. Regardless of the situation he walked into 2 years ago, there should at least be some kind vision of what UNCW basketball is going to look like under him.

For the shocker to all, both teams actually played a little defense last night.

Again, GM has nailed it. Underachieving with a roster that should be at the very least 'middle of the pack' AND lacking an identity. They already look defeated with many important games left. Teams that play with pride are a reflection of their coach and the culture he instills. I am hoping this shows signs of turning in the right direction, if not for the sake of this season then the next.

I agree with both of you. With the roster we started the year with, there's no denying it has been a disappointing season. I'm really hoping something begins to change this year and provides hope for next year and beyond. We've beat the dead horse of reasons as to our woes so I don't see any point in belaboring that. I just want to see our guys go out there with a little fire.

I wasn't able to watch the game last night, due to being at my son's practice. However, from all accounts it sounds like we played better defense??? Anyone that watch the game have any positive commentary on that? What did we change, and how did we hold a team that typically puts up a lot of points (similar to us) to a lower number?

I did not watxh the same so I will not comment on it. The year is not over and the team is NOT defeated and what kind of person says that about a team this young? I do think they can improve with the games left on the schedule and it appears they played a defense. This is not a sprint to the finish with this team but you do look for overall improvement and an identity of some sort for the team Those are the things I think you should judge a new coach on and not get all knee jerk about scores of games.
Saying the team is defeated is BS and just a straight out lie, there is no way a internet poster/fan could have any clue about that. Stop with the coach slamming and let him coach the team in his second season which really is his first yr in my mind after the crap Keatts pulled off.

The defensive effort was there but offensively they couldn't get anything to go down in the first half and then started to force things in the 2nd. Toews definitely wasn't himself last night and it was apparent he wasn't healthy. That's why the offense wasn't flowing like it usually does last night IMO. For the record, I've defended CB just as much as anyone else up here and thier scores and record are not what disappoints me about this season. It's the fact that there is no identity. I don't know if the team is defeated and I'm fine with giving CB a couple of more seasons to figure this out. However, I'm not gonna sit here and act like I'm not concerned about the direction of UNCW basketball under his lead.

I've been looking for something, anything to grab onto. Hoping we play well defensively again Saturday and that would be the first time all year we have played well on D twice in a row

If we can play decent defense against Delaware, it will definitley be a good sign. IMO, they figured out how to attack our defense better than any CAA team this year. They also have the interior size and defense to shut down Cacok. This is a really tough matchup for us on both sides.

Cacok had 12-12 on 50% shooting. They didn't exactly "shut him down", it certainly wasn't 20/20. But a decent day at the office

Not saying they shut him down, but they do have the interior size to do so.
