The draft picks are what is important to a rebuild in this market and they still don't realize that.

Top 5 or top 10 draft picks, maybe. But the Magic and Suns and T'Wolves and until this year, finally, the Kings had top 5 picks forever and did nothing with them. Bulls doing the same now.

We have JJJ already by sheer luck. We don't have to strip this thing all the way down to the studs, hoping one day for a top 5 pick to get a guy like JJJ. I hope to hell we keep Mike now. Jonas, Ivan, Kyle, Dillon, Delon, hopefully Justin added to Mike and JJJ is a competitive team. Finish off the Chandler contract, and we have room to add to this core.

JJJ is not sheer luck. JJJ is exactly what tanking does. It was widely known that the top 3 last year were going to be Ayton, Bagley, Doncic. So JJJ being at 4 isn't lucky.

JJJ is sheer luck. The 4th pick the year before was Josh Jackson. 4th pick in '16 was Dragan freaking Bender. The 4th pick this year will be someone like Cam Reddish, who is not in the same stratosphere as JJJ.

We lucked out. Tanked in a great year, and JJJ fell to us.

They tanked for a reason to get a high pick in what was considered by a lot as a very strong draft.

That's not luck. That's tanking doing what it should've done. JJJ didn't fall to the Grizz. Everyone knew who the top 3 were going to be. Everyone also knew JJJ would be a star eventually at this level once his offensive game came around.

It's more perfect timing than luck. It was a perfect timing that Grizz tanked in a year where the draft was strong.

What the Grizz have gotten lucky on is the fact that JJJ's offensive game has been better than originally thought.

Well there is “luck” even with the order of picks. The Suns actually won the lottery by getting the first pick. I doubt many actually think Ayton is the best player in the 2018 draft. You could say we were lucky that we didn’t get the first pick. Who knows? Maybe we wouldn’t have taken him anyways.

Value goes down as you age. They were worth it at the time that they signed.

Considering we turned down first round picks for both, I'm not sure I'd say we couldn't get value. I don't know what the Grizzlies are thinking. It looks bad right now.

The only thing about the Gasol trade is we aren't hampered by another bad contract. I don't really blame the Grizzlies for being patient shopping Conley, he will bring a nice return.

Unfortunately the best hope for the Grizz is to build through the draft, we just don't have any picks, unless you're waiting for that 2024 second rounder we picked up.

It will be interesting to see how the rest of this season plays out esp with a first round lottery pick on the line.

It really looks like we don't have a plan at all, so nothing really new there.

RE: Update: 3 Hours Untilthe Trade Deadline - What Do You Think?
Listened to the Nate Duncan/Danny Leroux Dunc'd on NBA pod and Sam Vecenie/Cole Zwicker Game Theory pods on the trade deadline. At least the Grizz parts.
Both were fine with the trade on both sides. Raptors go all in to win with Kawhi. Grizz got a good return for Marc.

All 4 guys think Delon was the biggest acquisition for us. Said he will be great in Memphis. That he should have played more in Toronto. Nate Duncan thought the trade will actually cause Delon to have a smaller contract this summer. Said another team would have signed him to a bigger offer sheet than Toronto could afford this summer, hoping Toronto wouldn't match. But now, other teams know Memphis will match, so they won't bother with the offer sheet, because it ties up their cap money for days while Memphis matches.

Weirdly, all questioned how much of an upgrade Marc was over Serge Ibaka, which I thought was nuts. Leroux questioned whether Marc would be in the closing lineups. Strange. Vecenie said Marc was rated the best defender in the league against Joel Embiid, thought the Raptors mainly got him for a potential matchup against the 76ers.

I actually like the Grizzlies roi for Marc and think we definitely improved as a team. I like this deal. The others idk...we'll see.

Not sure who made the Gasol deal, but I know who didn't. As much as we all love Marc but I think we came out far ahead in the long run and got younger.

It looks like the plan, as generic as it may be, is to start the rebuild almost immediately, unless we luck up and land a top 4 pick. Too bad we don't have more draft picks but we are really paying for Chris Wallaces poor decisions.

Hopefully that rebuild means some major FO shakeups.

I don't think Mike Conley finishes next season with the Grizzlies unless we do land a top 4 pick this season. He will bring some real value as well.

We have picked up some other good trade pieces. We should be able to assemble a nice young team around JJJ.

We have cap space relief coming soon.

This organization desperately needs a new coach and front office to guide us through this rebuild.

I'm trying very hard to be positive, just wish we had a few more draft picks.

Maybe we strike draft night lightning. We need something good to happen.

Go Grizz..

RE: Update: 3 Hours Untilthe Trade Deadline - What Do You Think?
I hope we can trade Conley during the upcoming draft and get a 1st round pick. Ideal situation would be to convey the pick to Boston and also pick up a 1st round pick via Conley trade. We have young talent in Rabb, Caboclo, Anderson, Dillon and Carter. No idea yet if any of them will ever be NBA starters but hopefully Dillon pans out from that group and others become solid rotational players (Anderson is already a solid role player but hopefully the shoulder injury doesn't linger).

It's crucial we have a new front office for the upcoming draft and moving forward. Hopefully Pera pulls the trigger on Wallace as soon as the season is over.
