I love my Lopes my school and even like Dan but yikes. I know its more of an emotional response to what happened to the team this week (0-2) but goodness. Also maybe he will keep his heavy words to himself on regards to how good the team is and allow others to state their opinions and he can just focus on coaching.

And Rebounding. Rebounding. Rebounding. Rebounding. Rebounding. Rebounding. Rebounding. Rebounding. Rebounding. Rebounding. Rebounding. Rebounding. Rebounding. Rebounding. Rebounding. Rebounding. Ran this forward, occurs at the two hours and 37 Min mark you can hear about rebounding:

NMSU is ranked 7th in rebounding in the country. GCU is tied at 99th with Buffalo.

From day one of Jans' hiring, he said his teams would play good tough defense, REBOUND, and play smart basketball; value the ball. I would say his Aggie teams have lived up to that.

Was a little upset about 22+/- free throws for GCU vs 4 for UTRGV midway through 2nd half, but the last 4 minutes more than made up for it.

RGV is on a nice 3 game streak. Their loss to UVU was 21 I believe, but their other WAC losses have all been very close. I'm also impressed that they played Houston to 5 points earlier in the season. I'm not sure how much they return, but it sure is nice seeing them become more of a force.

Can you pull one off Saturday in Bakersfield?

Hope so. But true happiness can only be achieved by beating NMSU. Even taking the WAC tournament would not be as satisfying as just one win against you. It's become a white whale kind of thing.

I get what you're saying, but taking the WAC tournament would be pretty sweet--wouldn't you agree?

Pulled it off in Bakersfield but it was even tougher than GCU. Winn, Smith, Varner all fouled out.

Yah, congrats Vaqs. I was enraptured at hockey that night, so just saw a couple of Twitter posts about the game (when I could. Robobank cell reception is overall pretty bad for me, anyway). Not surprised after the NMSU collapse.

Loser talk. He's not a good coach. It's not smack talk either. Marvin was a nice guy but he wasn't a good coach. Marvin did ok in a watered down WAC but now he's bombing at UNLV. He won't last there. Neither will Weir. Weir had some really good assistants at State but is bombing at UNM. Majerle has star power and that's it. OK recruiter but below average coach. Never going to be a Gonzaga, not with Majerle anyway.

RE: WAC basketball week 14
I agree with Majerle, you just have to win three in Vegas to win the WAC tournament. The bigger issue is shooting threes and the play of their big men inside. Michael Finke and Lever both average under five rebounds per game. Lever has a total of two blocks for the whole season. Finke has one block for the season. They are not tough enough inside. Two 6'10" guys with a combined three blocks for the season is pathetic. They are too soft.

The three point shooting is ranked #278 in the country. The shooting should be better and has to get better. Their problems can be fixed by a couple more defensive rebounds and just hitting one or two more three pointers. The games are close, but GCU has not been tough enough down the stretch. They led Seton Hall 75-73 with just over a minute left, then gave up an offensive rebound which led to a three point field goal. They lost 82-75.

GCU has plenty of talent on their roster. If Majerle can toughen them up by the tournament, they can beat anybody. If they continue to play the way they have been, they won't make the WAC finals.

Those are very enlightening stats about their big men. I can see that in their play vs NMSU in hindsight. I didn't know it was a season long trend though.
