So Elon gets 1 preseason all-Conference, and we get 4. Yet we only get 1 first-place vote, and Elon is picked to win the league. That makes a lot of sense.

Again, no worries though. I prefer getting overlooked!

I agree with your sentiment about being over looked. In regards to Elon, it appears they are putting a lot of stock in returning, very good starting pitching.

Their picked to have two dominant starters. Speaks more to 08's point that sure, they have two dominant starters... but what else? Those guys aren't going to be locked on and smoking in EVERY outing. So inevitably, they'll have their losses. Does Elon have enough in the other 8 positions on the field and in the pen to keep pace with teams with more balance?

We shall see.

Go Seahawks!

If you win 2 of every three you would likely win the conference. I'm not saying i agree, just saying that's likely what their thought process was. In regards to the other 8 positions, they return 5 from a very good team last year.

So do we... and we won the conference.
right, 5 starters plus 2 stud pitchers Vs. 5 starters & Unknown staff.

Our staff could be very good, but right now it's not a known entity

I’m sorry but D1 Baseball and Baseball America are drinking too much Cool Aid with Brnovich and Kirby. Don’t get me wrong, they’re very good great stuff, but NU swept Elon last year.

We gave Brnovich his 1st loss of the year, Kirby gave up 4 ER in 6 IP and Mellen held them to just 2 H in 6 IP the last game.

They don’t have the line IMO that UNCW, NU or CofC has.

How much kool aid needs to be drunk on a guy with a 1.79 and a guy with a 2.89? Sounds like you guys had a solid weekend against them but their overall body of work was very very good

Like I said, Brnovich and Kirby are very good, but they can get beat.

Elon didn’t beat anyone of any significance OOC except Wake Forest and they won one game in the tournament. UNCW hammered Kirby in the tourney.

It all comes down to their lineup and other pitchers.

Gesell, Lawson and Roupp are expected to be the weekend starters to begin the season. We play 4 games to open, and Herring is planned to be that 4th guy/midweek starter to begin the season.

Wasn't Herring our Friday guy last year? I wonder why they would put him on the weekday? Any information would be good....

RE: 2019 UNCW Baseball Thread
The SoCon Preseason Baseball Poll came out on Thursday. VMI, one of our two first opponents of the season, was picked to finish 9th (last) by the coaches, 8th by the media: http://www.soconsports.com/ViewArticle.d...EM_ID=4000

D1Baseball.com earlier picked them to finish 8th in the league.

1B Jake Huggins is on the Preseason SoCon Second Team All-Conference, the only Keydet to receive any preseason honors.

Still waiting on the A-10 poll for St. Joe's, the other team headed to Brooks Field this weekend.

Friday's forecast has improved drastically, but Saturday and Sunday don't look great. Rain appears to be coming in Friday night and continuing throughout the weekend and into the next week.

Might see Brown at 1B and Suggs RF,Noah Bridges CF,Jones SS. Odd man out would be Baldwin who is a switch hitter and might be first man in. He has struggled in the field and has not done well even at 1B. Jones would be the logical leadoff man-fast,switch hitter.

Not a hater at all and I hope he does well. Talked with a few people in the know and they like him as a hitter from both sides but he has struggled to find a position. Line drive hitter with some pop and a decent athlete. Any player that hits will not sit,we al;l know that!

If you need more preview material, the Baseball Bonanza is available now. Randy Hood and Matt Myers chatted with Michael and I over some Flamying Amy's burritos last week

I can see something like that. But if Kep plays 1B, then I'd put Zayicek in RF and open up the DH spot for Baldwin.

Listening now. Very cool to hear that Kelly Secrest is coming back as a Volunteer Pitching Coach!

Off topic but also cool to hear that the Cooking Channel is coming to Flaming Amy's. Love that place.
