Where does Baldwin play? Have to think we need his bat in the lineup

Right, I meant where does he play when our reg 2B gets healthy? On the baseball Bonanza Hood said that Baldwin may pitch this year may not.

My guess is when Jones and Meadows are both healthy, Baldwin shifts to DH. Something like this would be a pretty solid lineup:

1. Jones SS -- S
2. Meadows 2B -- R
3. Weiss 3B -- L
4. Brown 1B -- R
5. Zayicek RF -- L
6. Baldwin DH -- S
7. Thorburn LF -- L
8. Z. Bridges/Angeli C -- R
9. N. Bridges CF -- L

With righty bats Adam Smith and Matt Suggs and lefty bat Noah Liles coming off the bench.

interesting thought, if Baldwin does pitch, do they let him hit?

It's a moot point in my mind. I don't think he can jump into the starting pitching rotation, at least not early on. If he's a bullpen guy he'd still start games at DH, and if he comes in to pitch, we'd just sacrifice the DH slot.

Yeah. I see that scenario only being in play if we have a couple SP go down to injury and we’re scrambling for SP. the only other driving factor is his play in the field. If he can’t limit the errors in field positions maybe shift him to the bump. Still a problem further down the road, if at all.

He seems like too good of an athlete to not figure it out IMO. Guys like him that can pitch and hit are usually the nest players on the field. With his bat, we don't need him to be Omar Visquel, just serviceable.

I love it when people say “serviceable”. WTF does that even mean? Technically, it means either something works... or it doesn’t. “Serviceable” isn’t some gray area in between. That’s not what that word means. If I don’t put gas in my truck it’s not serviceable to me. If you take a tire off a bicycle it’s not serviceable.

Sorry, sports lingo pet peeve.

LOL i'd put it as these tires are almost worn out, but can still drive on them = "serviceable". To me in this scenario is means that his bat outweighs any mistakes in the field.

This looks like it me when Meadows gets healthy and Jones can throw the ball across the field. Baldwin has looked good at the plate so far but he has really struggled in the field. As far as pitching goes for him I am gonna go out on a limb and say-no way he ever throws one pitch at UNCW. He is 83-85 off the mound with no movement. I watched him pitch last summer vs Post 10 American Legion and he got smoked-lasted 1 2/3 innnings. Also freshman Matt Suggs has a thumb issue and can't catch yet , didn't look great swinging the bat.

Baseball Preview: Coastal Carolina

WILMINGTON, N.C. -- The Seahawks host longtime rival Coastal Carolina as they continue their season-opening homestand on Tuesday with a 4 p.m. start at Brooks Field.

Both teams got off to fast starts this season as the Seahawks won 3-of-4 last weekend against Saint Joseph's and VMI while the Chanticleers swept games against VCU, Maryland and Campbell in Conway.

Both teams got off to fast starts this season as the Seahawks won 3-of-4 last weekend against Saint Joseph's and VMI while the Chanticleers swept games against VCU, Maryland and Campbell in Conway.

UNCW's pitching staff had a strong weekend as it combined for a 3.25 earned run average and limited opponents to a .241 batting average. Junior reliever Henry Ryan earned a pair of wins and fellow reliever Blake Morgan, a senior, posted a win and a save in back-to-back appearances.

Senior Justin Walke (0-0) will make his first collegiate start for the Seahawks while the Chants counter with junior Scott Kobos (0-0) who will also be making his starting debut this season.

Tuesday's game will be the first of three games between UNCW and CCU with the two programs meeting again in late March for a home-and-home series.

UNCW hosts its annual Hughes Bros. Challenge this weekend with Marshall, Indiana State and Iona visiting Brooks Field. The Seahawks open their tournament schedule on Friday at 4 p.m. against Indiana State.

Win or lose today, we are young and without our starting midfield. We will be a much better team the next two times we play them.

Agreed. Still want to beat the snot out of them, like we did in that Fall doubleheader.

Coastal is our closest geographical rival, and stakes a claim to the color teal. I hope those 2 factors, plus both programs' baseball success, starts to develop a rivalry nearing the level of ECU between the 2 programs. That would be cool.
