Don’t know if you guys saw this ... but Greg Jones is listed among MLB.com’s Top 100 Amateur Draft Prospects.

http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2019?list=draft

You can click on his card to see the scouting report and video.

Nice. It was expected this would be his last hoorah at UNCW.

Missed this yesterday. Roupp took home CAA Pitcher of the Week honors:

Roupp Tabbed As CAA Pitcher of the Week

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW sophomore Landen Roupp tossed a two-hit, complete game gem against regular season champion Elon and was named Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher-of-the-Week on Monday.

Roupp allowed one run, unearned, walked two and struck out five over seven innings in going the distance for the first time in his career. It was also UNCW's first complete game of the season and clinched a series win over the Phoenix.

Over his last two starts, the Rocky Mount, N.C., native is 2-0, has a 0.64 ERA and has limited opponents to a .128 batting average.

The Seahawks earned a key series win against the Phoenix and remained in the hunt for a CAA tournament spot. It was also the first conference series dropped by the Phoenix, which has a bye this weekend and earned the top seed in the upcoming conference tournament with a 19-5 record.

UNCW hosts James Madison in another key CAA series with tournament implications. Both teams are 10-11 and in a four-way tie for third, along with William & Mary and Northeastern. The Tribe visits Hofstra and the Huskies head to Towson.

The UNCW-JMU series opens on Thursday with a 6 p.m. start.

Jones is a legit late 1st and 2nd round pick and most likely will move to the outfield as a pro. Hawks might be on to something here at the right time. Gotta play just as good this weekend to keep it going.
On another baseball note-New Hanover HS has a top level MLB prospect on the mound tonight. Blake Walson is the real deal and could also go in the first few rounds of the draft.

JMU lost to Maryland last night, 6-5. They used a few key relievers in the effort, but my guess is they'll all be available for Thursday.

RE: 2019 UNCW Baseball Thread
It's going to be an emotional three days of baseball at the Dub. I have followed Mark Scalf his whole career. There's not a better person in college baseball. His passion for the game and his love for this program is second to none. He could have gone elsewhere for more money. But this man bleeds teal. It's going to be strange with him not at the helm. I do believe though, that it will be left in very capable hands. Randy has more than earned his shot as HC. And it's a good thing he got the job. Because the program would have been in immediate shambles with all the supporters who would have walked away. I expect to see the Scalf era continuing with some added ideas that will strengthen our fan base even more. GO HAWKS!!!!

Agreed to all of this. No one in the country did so much with so little for so long like Scalf did.

Let's hope we finish strong so these aren't Coach Scalf's final games, even if they're his last ones at Brooks Field.

Baseball Preview: James Madison

WILMINGTON, N.C. -- It will be an exciting, for sure, end of the week for the Seahawk baseball program as it looks to earn a Colonial Athletic Association tournament berth while honoring and celebrating its seniors and leader, Mark Scalf, who is retiring after 28 seasons at the helm.

The Seahawks host James Madison with both teams tangled in a four-way tie for third in the CAA standings, along with William & Mary and Northeastern, at 10-12 in league play. Right behind that quartet are Delaware and Hofstra, both at 9-12. With Elon clinching the regular season title and the top seed and Charleston also earning a berth, that leaves four berths on the line with six teams battling it out this weekend.

Other series this week: Northeastern at Towson; Charleston at Delaware; William & Mary at Hofstra

This series also will be the final home series for Head Coach Mark Scalf. Scalf has been been a Seahawk as a player, assistant coach and in 1992, he became just the third coach in the history's program. During his 28 seasons, he's won 935 games, five conference tournament titles and nine NCAA regional appearances. He's the CAA's all-time winningest coach in all sports and has earned CAA Coach of the Year on seven occasions. Following Saturday's game, there will be a special ceremony honoring coach Scalf and recognizing him for all his contributions during his tenure.

UNCW will also recognize its six seniors prior to Saturday's game. Being honored are Justin Crump, Blake Deatherage, Brandon Mulier, Kep Brown, Blake Morgan, and Justin Walke.

Friday, the Seahawks will don pink jerseys, which will be auctioned during the game with proceeds going to the Going Beyond The Pink Foundation for breast cancer survivors. Friday will also be Kids Takeover Day at Brooks Field as kids will have an opportunity to experience what game day is like from PA announcing to ticket operations as well as other areas.

PROJECTED SERIES STARTERS

Thursday, 6 p.m., JMU Kevin Kelly (RHP) vs. UNCW Luke Gesell (RHP)

Friday, 6 p.m., JMU Nick Stewart (RHP) vs. UNCW TBA

Saturday, 2 p.m., JMU Michael Bechthold (RHP) vs UNCW TBA

Just score some runs tomorrow and I'm good. And, just have fun playing the game for once. Trust that the pitching will be enough and just be aggressive with where it's pitched.

Hofstra just beat W&M in the first game of their doubleheader, 4-3.

Not good news for us.

Hofstra and W&M both swept us, so they're now both currently ahead in the pecking order. The best result for us in that series would have been a W&M sweep.

Hawks are up 3-0 in the 2nd already. Baldwin and Thorburn with RBI and 2-run singles, respectively.

W&M beat Hofstra 12-2 in the 2nd game of the doubleheader.
