Decommited from Indiana over the weekend after they got him to flip from us a few weeks before early signing day ...
Hopefully he sticks with the Rockets this time... (6-4 300 lb. Massillon OG Vinny Sciury).

Anyone noticed that bgSUCKS currently has the top 2020 class in the Mac

BGSUX has 26 commit to Toledo's 14.
They probably won't be #1 after national signing day in February.
[/quote
I will bet the lowest rated Rocket is higher than the 14th rated sucks recruit. I don't like the rankings because they seem to value Quantity over Quality I prefer the other way around

I’m sure we will look a lot better after signing day. And our average * number is over 83 those other guys are about two points lower

My only concern is that Candle and his staff haven't done a good job developing talent consistently over the last few years. We have always brought in elite talent during those years. Campbell seems to have no problem beating Big 12 teams with his lower ranked recruiting classes. Toledo players seem to not improve year to year.

I'd agree a whole lot more if you thought they haven't done a good job game planning or making adjustments in game. But individual development? That's been their strong point hasn't it?

There's a whole lot of talent between our recruits and those coming in as freshmen to bigger programs expected to be on NFL rosters someday that never get a sniff.

I guess I'm not sure what you're thinking of when you say "elite" talent. Under appreciated or underdeveloped talent maybe? Getting them on-board to coming here is a sign of good talent evaluation and recruiting no?

I tend to look at it from the standpoint of how many players we put on the all-MAC teams. Not very good for 2019 given there are no 1st-teamers and only a couple on offense and defense in the 3-deep listings. That would tend to indicate the ratings are either overrated - or we are not developing players that made up the high rankings on recruits we signed. Probably a little of each and more. The lackluster performance on the field contributed as well, as did finishing last in the West.

Rockets still looking for a RB as they have offered Tyree Nelson from Mays HS in Atlanta. Not many offers although a pretty high rating from 247. Not sure if I am right, but it looks like maybe he did not have the test scores to qualify until recently.

Saw a tweet today that indicated Notre Dame grad transfer LB Jonathan Jones is committing to UT. Haven't seen anything official yet tho. DL coach Black had been at ND, so that could be a reason to pick UT.

Didn't play much at ND. Not a lot of P5 transfers have contributed that much to UT, but one can hope this will help the new defense.

If true, he is immediately considered for a starting spot year. Looked at the ND roster and they had 14 LB's on the team in 2019. 4 were freshman and only 2 seniors (including Jones). They had 6 guys that were taller and heavier that were returning. ND defense was decent - gave up 151 yds/game rushing (average of 3.8/carry) and only 17.9 pts/game. Pass defense was 168/game.

Has a pretty impressive list of credentials coming out of HS and would likely have been a decent to high recruit for a mid-major school coming out of HS. I guess you could say we have a need at the position he lines up at....

Are we expecting any surprise big time commits? Pretty sure we have spots open in the 2019 class. So my next question is why PWO if we have scholarships available

if you have 7 guys you really want and rank them 1 thru 7. But you only have 5 scholarships available, you give the top 5 scholarships and offer PWO to the #6 and #7 players. And if a scholarship opens up you can then give to the next one in line.....

RE: 2020 Football Recruiting Thread
Looks like Chambers is gone from the current roster. Not sure if this was brought up before or not, but I was curious as to who Kool would have to work with and thought of him specifically. Was hoping he could motivate him to get in shape, build his strength and quickness and ultimately build him into a guy that could get a shot at the NFL where his size would be enough to get a look. He was at 360 (must have been weighed at the end of summer drills) last year and was largely ineffective in a relief role. No need to project what impact someone like coach Kool might have had on him now.

We might be targeting remaining scholarships at certain positions. We could be all filled up with scholarships that we wanted to offer in this class for OL, hence a PWO to an OL while scholarships are still available for other positions.

Pretty sure we had a very small senior class, maybe 14. We signed 18 in December.

I don't know the exact number, but there are open scholarships. I think it's like 4 or 5. That said, sometimes coaches like to keep 1 or 2 scholarships in their pocket just in case. I would expect that we will sign at least a couple of players in February.....of course that number includes any transfers and it sounds like one is coming from ND already.

2020 K/P Cole Riebe from Yorkbille, IL has tweeted he has committed to UT. I assume a PWO.

Big, strong kid. I worry about academics when I see his other offers, though. Dartmouth, Boston College-will he be able to manage the rigorous academics at UT?

According to Lynch's twitter, he just received an offer from UT four days ago. I don't see a commitment tweet yet, but I noticed 247sports lists him as a hard commit. Based on his other offers, this is a big get for the Rockets. And just before signing day so this should be a solid lock.

I just checked our commits a short time ago. Actually I check them two or three times a day. I’m positive we had 20 commits before the RB commit. Now we have 19 commits
Ok my mistake. I’m old sorry
