RE: 2020 Football Recruiting Thread
Another gem hiding in plain sight! I’ve been following this local kid and it’s clear he is a stud with his 22’5” long jump and high end speed and ball skills! Welcome to Toledo.

All 5 recruits so far are from Ohio with 4 of 5 for the D. Both He and Sciury will be ranked quite high once 247 redoes their ranking scores in 2-3 months... if that even matters.

Kid had 2000 yards rushing as a sophomore and plays both ways but it’s likely he will play safety at UT. He’s a legit 6’0” and has muscled up to 205 after winter workouts. He will likely attend a UT June Friday Night Lights camp so I will be watching since I usually drop over and watch them since it is a 500 foot walk across Bancroft from my house.

Go Rockets!

Junior I believe?

His school had a mediocre year playing a Div 5-6 schedule. Destroyed by Lake, who was beaten badly by Genoa who lost to Liberty Center who was beaten badly in play-offs. The area had a weak year, where even a moderately bigger, faster kid would shine.

Last year they went to state finals. Is that when he got the 2000yds? It would have been over 15 games.

Either way, I don't think the yardage is a measure. Too small a schedule.

The other measurables are what they are. All trust in the talent evaluators, they must see something they can develop. If the kid is that good already, Summer camps should get him that extra attention.

Nice to see the kids staying home.

He's a solid athlete and ball player, but it's extremely tough to measure at this point given how poor the competition is that he faces on a weekly basis. The camps this season will go a long way to show how good he truly is.

It's rather easy to measure the competition, you know that. Not sure what you're getting at there. He has the offer already in hand, the Summer camps are irrelevant except to show other potential recruiters his measure.

To be clear, I'm not challenging the offer. I'm commenting more on the difficulty of the mid-major recruiting game. This kid seems a prime example of the "risks" needed to take on the big guys. Hopefully it pays for the University and for the student. If the kid has good academics, good citizenship, that extra level desire and the measurables, then why not be sure to sneak a few of these in the door?

His level of competition has not set him consistently against strong across the board defenses nor given him complicated offenses to read when he's on D. Football IQ doesn't have to be at the same level as in the major D1s. It certainly isn't tested as much.

I have to believe coaches saw something more here than athletic measures, 2000yds or size? The city leagues are full of those. Perhaps they have determined by other means how good he truly is but mostly I think it has to be an offer based on their evaluation of his potential. Perhaps he's fast, quick, big AND smart.

RE: 2020 Football Recruiting Thread
He’s been thoroughly evaluated by UT otherwise there would be no offer to a kid likely to accept one. I’m sure he’s “worked out” for the staff. He’s an athlete and a baller as well. Athletes are always welcome.

MSR loves the kid and he sees hundreds of them yearly and he thinks he’s legit D I talent as a S not a RB as do 4 other MAC schools.

Go Rockets!

To be clear, I stated above that he is a solid get...I think he well deserves the offer and will make an impact, just that I'll be interested in seeing how he plays against higher level competition.

Still waiting on the Rockets...Tulane and Northwestern stopped in and visited with my boy this morning after spring practice. Ohio was out yesterday, but he didn’t have any contact with them. 5’11 185...playing SS and CB....most likely going to grow into a Rover...similar to Blue.

Don’t! We don’t need a Wienergate like BG!

That's great to hear, remember to enjoy the process! Having been through it myself, albeit in a different sport, it's extremely stressful but still one of my favorite memories. And hey, if it's Tulane or Northwestern, your son has got a hell of a future outside of the sport already set up too.

For sure...great schools if he gets the opportunity. Recruiting is much different now, much different from when I went through it. I'm just happy he is getting some attention. He's late to the game, after so much time on baseball, but his hard work is starting to pay off. I keep reminding him that it only takes one school and not to get too caught up in number of offers, stars, etc...

So, BG can now officially be referred to as Wienerville.

Tulane sucks, at least one staff member does. Friend of family's son was taking a lab test that had been moved from its original time. His mother text him at that time because of an immediate family member health emergency.
Prof gave him an "F" because of receiving a text. The student attempted to appeal
It and was told he was lucky not to be brought up on academic charges. Guess they don't need the tuition money.

Nice to see coach still winning the locals. I still want to know how good those linemen are at Dearborn Fortson that trashed Cass Tech. You've got to have some line to beat them like that.
