GREAT WIN FOR UT!!!!

I hoped we would snatch a road win and we did! I thought it might be a bridge too far but damn if we didn’t step up and play great!

Huge road win for sole possession of first place in the West Division!

Meanwhile, the two teams picked to finish ahead of us (EMU and Ball State) are 3-6 and 2-7 in the conference.

Long way to go and a monstrous stretch coming up.

IMO, that was our biggest MAC win of the season...so far!

Going on the road to beat a team that beat Buffalo, and that’s in our Division? Very good win.

Good positive point delta from bench and a huge delta in 3’s! UT had 13 to NIU’s 4 3’s. That’s the game right there!

RE: MBB: Toledo at Northern Illinois game thread
one of our better games this season. good defense, good rebounding and accurate shooting. navigato played down the stretch how you need a veteran scorer to play. without him that lead probably slips away.

edu is so good on the defensive end defending the post, protecting the rim and staying in position. add in his defensive rebounding and you can make a case we are better with him on the floor that luke, even though we lose something on the offensive end. when luke went out with foul trouble is when we put the game away.

while marreon was great in the 1st half, it was the lineup of darrington, edu, littleson/willie j, navigato and sanford put this game away. darrington seems to have his swag back. missed some late jumpers but was great early and handled the ball well. littleson looked more comfortable on offense than he has in a while. really need those 2 guys playing well to make a run at the mac tourney. guard oriented league and when they pay well we match up OK on the perimeter with the depth of buffalo and kent. if not, it's gonna be tough.

so, for all the doubts about this team, it is now halfway through mac reg season and we are 6-3 and 1st in the West. Big week ahead against a hot Akron team at home and a hotter BG team on the road in what could be a sold out arena.

Great win on the road. Navi player of the game IMO. Edu with 7 boards and a block (I thought it was 2).

Someone mentioned during the game about where the points were coming from/shot selection, most of which was 3s. A few games ago I stumbled into the "livestats" link via the school website. That thing is really sweet. To the 3 point thing, I got a screenshot of this;

It has all kind of looking at the number for the nerdy number guys; but then it goes away. Is there an archive you can go to? I looked all over. There is an archive via settings but the link itself disappears an hour or so after the game.

I didn't realize that game was on early. I missed it. Must have been fun, though. Cool win!

Since it was at their place I would say it was a better win than SUCKS win last night and they beat buffalo at their place.

I've not noticed any particular change in defensive effort against him. Perhaps a change in how the ball moves through him, how and where he's getting the ball? Anyone notice?

Where's Basketball Jones, pono, etc.? They usually give in-depth analysis as I'm curious as well. Sanford has been way off his game lately and we're going to need him to be on his A-game in the conference tournament if we want to end the drought.

I'd have to go watch tape to do more than speculate. Off the top I'd say he's a shooter who hasn't been making jump shots. so, that throws off his confidence. my take is that he started playing a little too slow and got his feelings hurt a bit by the way ball st and buffalo guards schooled him and hasn't really been right since. sanford is not making good quick moves and causing the defense to react. when he is right he plays quick but under control and shifts from 2nd to 4th aggressively. lately, he's been stuck in 2nd. I thought he started to attack more late in the last game. sanford is a good player. has been for a long time. the great ones seize the big moments. i'm hoping jaelen can have a few of those before he goes out.

Confidence in his jumper is gone. Looks off shooting. At Miami his shots were BAD. It reminds me of when a pitcher starts aiming for the strike zone

I think Sanford is most effective when he concentrates on his mid range pull up game and driviing to the basket. Not only does it seem he gets his energy from that aspect of his game, he also draws fouls where he is pretty automatic from the charity stripe. He has always been a pretty streaky 3-point shooter as 5-24 in the last four games will attest to. However, we still need him to take some so that he can get his mojo back as he has hit some very clutch 3 pointers over his career.
