Always scanned.
They scan your ticket or print out to make sure it is not a copy. What they do with the scan information, we can only guess.

I feel like NIU is one of the accurate schools, that publish butts in the seats. EMU, and some other P5/G5 schools 100% pad their numbers based on televised visuals, using season tickets sold, day-of-game tickets sold to Pepsico (EMU), creative Pig10 math, etc..

I'd honestly rather NIU pad their numbers until 100% of FBS is reporting butts-in-seats accurately.

NIU reports number of scanned tickets plus scanned students. That is the number included in the box score. The NCAA also allows the option of reporting tickets sold which doesn’t allow you to add in free tickets scanned or students scanned. So let’s say you are a MAC program that sells 10,000 tickets per home game to Pepsi or Coke. So you can include that number in your box score plus other tickets sold and not include any of your student scans. There is a formula that determines what is the cheapest you can sell a ticket and still count it as a paid ticket.
At the end of the season there is a NCAA audit and if you don’t have a 15000 attendance average based on either of the formulas athletics must find the funding from a donor or another area of the university to get to the 15000 mark.

EMU flat out buys tickets, 10k plus a game. They don't hide it, they have too.

NIU buys tickets too. There was a link here from the Norther Star showing what they spend to keep the attendance qualifier.

Now, I don't know about EMU, but I am certain NIU turns around and sells many of those tickets on Stubhub. It's clear to see when whole rows are available for $10 a pop while Ticketmaster shows a maybe a couple thousand seats for sale, mostly in groups and never shows the top rows available and show very few down low. They weren't sold to the public. Nor was row 45 or whatever to the public initially. They have to buy these tickets but then don't want to give the perception of discounting the tickets. So they resale them, get what they can.

And they are not the only ones. I know UI does it for sure as I saw the same at homecoming but their SH tickets weren't much less. Upper deck was more than 1/2 empty on the east side yet they only had low rows for sale. The created a "perceived" demand, lack of tickets. And I am sure other P5 do the same. Perhaps not for attendance criteria but to eat less tickets.

NDSU should jump to the mountain west, not the MAC

The revenues cited in that article are from the NCAA which say it counts only those "generated independently by the athletics program". So it doesn't include the millions NIU got at FSU, Nebraska etc and might not include the ESPN $. One thing to keep in mind is there is no ESPN $ and generally only one paycheck game at FCS level which is often substantially less.

Paycheck games are substantially less as well. Usually less than 1/2 million.

Yes, some people are sports fans and want that, but many, many don't really care (if they become fans after they attend somewhere).

I think it would not have an immediate impact but a devastating long term impact to drop to FCS. Frazier wants this direction but as fans we have to be sure our opinion is heard to not demote NIU football.

So hiring Thomas Hammock was all part of the master plans for going FCS, huh? And we must fight the good fight against Frazier, lol. You crazy01-wingedeagle 03-lmfao

Frazier's comments were also not received well by the main MAC board about the FCS future. They were pretty fired up about it too. As time goes on though, I'll admit, I am seeing the FCS route too. Too many factors going against this demotion not happening. The ESPN deal will always keep fanbases to a minimum in the MAC going forward, MAC leadership is fine with it as long as they get their TV contract. Some schools like NIU we have lost a generation of fans due to the ESPN deal and mismanagement by commish and ADs. It is fighting a losing battle at this point. I think a school like NIU has to seriously ask, is it time to pour more money into basketball. If there is a sport that could remain Div 1, it is basketball. The reason I get to frustrated about this imminent FCS status in football is that I feel like schools like NIU shot themselves in the foot

Please provide some actual citations of STF indicating a move down from FBS to FCS football is his intention. Actual words? Facial expressions? Body language? Wind direction?

STF has suggested a G5 playoff, which was met with a resounding "blgh&ch&gug" by others in the G5, especially the American, which wants us all to think of it as the Power 6th.

If anything, the hiring of THammock, and STF's comments about getting back to the NY6 bowls, indicate a move toward building the program up from where it is. The time that takes could coincide with 2024-25 (or whenever) when there is some kind of conference reshuffling due to TV contract changes involving the P5.

Someone famous who's name I forget once said that the key to success is to be in position to be in position to grab opportunities when they come along. Hopefully, THIS is what STF has in mind.

While peers are being tossed around as FCS possibilities, experts are pegging us the 8th most likely P5 school.

From the realignment board:

Quote:The schools ranked for P5 status by college football experts.

1.Boise State
2.BYU
3.Cinncinnati
4.UCF
5.USF
6.Memphis
7.UConn.
8.Northern Illinois
9.San Diego State
10.Colorado State

The individual who posted this has called several unlikely developments in realignment.

We’d all love it, but I’d have to argue swapping Houston for NIU and make it a best of American and MW (+BYU).
