Rice holds on 65 - 61. Martin 15points, 7 boards...Murphy 12 points..Adams 16 points, 5 boards, 4 assists...Williams 10 boards, Mullins only 2-11 shooting.
Much needed road win.

Got to love 11 of 22 from 3 pt range, but 9 of 30 from inside the arc? Lucky to get the win with that performance. Glad to see the Owls find a way to win.

Congrats on the win (and double win days are always sweet). Realistically, we don't have any sure wins left on the schedule. We'll probably be underdogs in every game before the final 4 games are determined. But I don't think we can count ourselves out in any games either.

I think we broke our win-loss record from last year. Did Pera calm down this game?

Last year the Owls were 7 wins and 24 losses. This year's team is currently 9 wins and 13 losses. They have yet to play a full 40 minutes of good basketball but that is probably true of most NCAA teams. The good news is that they are learning to win and you can see the young talent getting better throughout the season.
Drew Peterson's court time was limited to 10 minutes last night, I am assuming in large part to the continued improvement of Trey Murphy on the offensive end. I was hoping that the contributions from Murphy and Peterson would decrease Jack Willams court presence but Williams continues to exceed my overall performance expectations, (10 rebounds...excellent! 0-7 from the field....not so good).

The repeated Pera bashing is growing old. And think our record should be with an * when posting here to reflect the UTEP game just to keep things in perspective.

+1. I’d add the second North Texas game. This team, basically freshmen, is off to an impressive start. They can play with anyone in the conference. And just to preempt the naysayers, yes, I recognize ours is not the strongest conference around. But it’s not bad.

I'm somewhat encouraged by the progress of the team.
However, we are in a really bad conference. No only are we a one bid conference. There are zero teams in the Top 100 (by Massey or Sagarin).

Eh, by overall Conference RPI, our league is actually better than the last few years. The difference is that our worst teams are less bad... We don't have one really good team like we have had the last few years (MT).

RPI is a terrible/very inaccurate ranking system. Massey has us as the 18th best conference. Right behind the Sun Belt.

I really think Peterson has the talent to be a weapon on the court, but he needs to get the pace of the college game. He always seems a little mis-positioned on offense. Murphy has been fun to watch, offensively at least. His combination of size and shooting is really appealing. He's shooting 46.4% from 3, and that's only gotten better recently (last 6 games: 3-4, 3-6, 4-6, 4-8, 5-7, 4-5 for a total of of 23-36 or 64%). It's nice to see, and he's also getting to the line a decent amount recently, but I'd also like to see at least some non-threes shot. In his last 3 games, he's only shot 1, and that's not an extraordinary stretch. But there's a lot of talent there and more to unlock

I agree with much of what you are saying. Some of the shot selection for Murphy is due to the offense that Rice is running which often keeps him on that 3 point line by design. He has surprised a few people with strong rebounds and a few nice athletic dunks on put backs, but the coaches want him bombing away from 3-point land.
I have not figured out why Peterson has not been contributing at the level I expected after watching him on the court the first couple of games. Perhaps it is the speed and strength of the game that has confronted him with some challenges or maybe he lost some of that swagger/confidence after realizing he is no longer the best player on the court as was likely the case in High School. He is still in the starting line-up, so he is a player the coaches are counting on to be successful. I hope the final 1/3 of the season has him finding his shot and swagger and that during the off season he works on his strength, toughness and shooting skills.
