RE: TOEWS R.O.W for 3rd TIME
The ROW standings so far this season:

1. Kai Toews, UNCW: 3
Ithiel Horton, Delaware: 3
Camren Wynter, Drexel: 3
4. Chase Audige, W&M: 2
5. Kris Wooten, Elon: 1
L.J. Owens, W&M: 1

The All-Rookie team will most certainly contain Toews, Horton, Wynter, and Audige. The only question is which one takes home Rookie of the Year honors.

Any of those 2nd in the Nation in a statistical category? Of course the team's win-loss record should play a big part IMO.

Since its an individual award, I would hope his incredible assist numbers would trump anything else as a tiebreaker.

But this is the CAA we're talking about.

True. Still a lot of games to go. Freshman are known to crap the bed at least once a season.

I was more referring to the CAA being terrible from a leadership standpoint (and somehow has gotten worse with Yeager's retirement), and many times making the wrong choices when it comes to their awards.

RE: TOEWS R.O.W for 3rd TIME
I'm not a fan of a team's win/loss record having a significant effect on the outcome of ROY or POY votes. I absolutely understand the sentiment there, especially since I've been involved in team sports since I can remember at various levels.

I can understand an argument for both sides, but for individual awards I definitely lean towards not placing as much emphasis on team results.

To be honest, my perspective here was based on being a Cubs fan growing up (beginning in the early-mid 1980s) and seeing a player like Andre Dawson win the NL MVP. Plus, I'm partial to recognizing underdogs or significantly high quality players on teams that aren't winning. IMO, that adds even more allure/legend status to their success.

It's not end all be all, but it has to be a factor. If you are on a terrible team(not saying he is), you get a lot more opportunities to shine as a sole individual. I'm thinking more POY in my comments. Kai is different because of the way he shines, he still relies on teammates to finish after making great passes.

I don't think there is a more "team oriented" player on this team than Kai. That's saying something, considering Devontae has some significant accomplishments but always downplays them into considering whether or not his efforts led to a win for the team. I really like how both of them approach the game and the team. May be a struggle of up and downs this year, but as we say goodbye to Cacok it sure is nice to see a bright future with Toews.

RE: TOEWS R.O.W for 3rd TIME
CAA-only stats for the ROY contenders:

Kai Toews, UNCW: 10.1 ppg, 9.0 apg, 3.2 rpg, 0.2 spg, 0.0 bpg, 2.3 A/TO, .418/.333/.826 FG-3PT-FT %, 32.7 mpg

Ithiel Horton, Delaware: 12.3 ppg, 1.2 apg, 2.9 rpg, 0.4 spg, 0.0 bpg, 1.2 A/TO, .425/.412/.762 FG-3PT-FT %, 30.2 mpg

Camren Wynter, Drexel: 8.9 ppg, 5.1 apg, 4.9 rpg, 2.0 spg, 0.0 bpg, 3.1 A/TO, .380/.176/.583 FG-3PT-FT %, 34.1 mpg

Chase Audige, W&M: 9.9 ppg, 2.9 apg, 4.9 rpg, 1.3 spg, 0.7 bpg, 1.4 A/TO, .471/.421/.727 FG-3PT-FT %, 34.2 mpg

I bolded the leaders in each category among the 4.

Wynter's A/TO ratio and ability to force turnovers are very impressive. But his shooting efficiency across the board is not.

Audige's percentages are great, and he's the most solid rookie across the board, at least statistically.

Toews is off the charts in assists, of course, but I'm surprised he has so few steals. For someone with his skillset I'd like to see him get better in that area.

Horton is the least impressive of the 4, despite being the scoring leader among rookies. He's a pure scorer but provides little else.

Umm, this should be moved to the "complaints" forum. More in line with being a Jets fan...05-stirthepot

Toews has a chance to end up averaging a double double in scoring and assists. If he can do that and continue to decrease his turnovers, I think he would very well get ROY.
