If you win one CAA Tournament game, he has 10 games left, and he needs to average 14.7 assists to average 10 for the season. 12 threes in 23 games is 0.52 per game. The last players to average at least 7.5 assists and under 0.5 made threes were Portland State's Will Funn and Illinois-Chicago's Martell Bailey in 2004-2005. No CAA player has done that since at least 1991-1992.

Using ESPN's standards, Gadsden leads Division I in three-point field goal percentage, giving you three players who are in the top three in an individual statistic. Gadsden doesn't qualify for the NCAA leaders, and they don't say what you need to qualify. https://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-basket...percentage requires a pace to make 25, and lists one player ahead of Gadsden who has made 18 and doesn't qualify for how ESPN does it.

TOEWS R.O.W for 3rd TIME
How is everyone feeling about Kai for ROY?

He’s not a lock but ya gotta like his chances at this point and with a favorable schedule to close out also.

At this point it should be a lock. He is a freshman playing PG and is top 3 in the nation in assists. He may not get another ROW but his contribution is hard to ignore.

RE: TOEWS R.O.W for 3rd TIME
Not a lock because there are some other quality Freshman like WYNTER (PG) and AUDIGE but these stats will be hard to ignore:

CAA
-#1 in Assists by 50
-#2 in AS/TO ratio (2.7)
-#4 in Double/Doubles (8)
(In Conference play almost averaging Double/Double 10.1 & 8.7)
-#22 in minutes played (32.1 leads team)
-Owns ALL 10 of the Highest Assist games this year in CAA
(Only player to do that in a Category)
-R.O.W 4 times (tied with 2 others)

D1
-#2 in Assist Average (7.9)
-#2 in Assist Total (221)
-#2 in Assist % (46%)
-#47 (tied with others) Doubles/Doubles (8)

UNCW
-#1 Assists
-#1 in Minutes played (30.1)
-#2 in Double/Doubles (8)
-#4 in Scoring
-Owns Freshman Assist record
-On pace to break All-Time Single Season Assist Record
(Needs to avg 6 a game)

Keep in mind 82, we are talking about the CAA. They snubbed Cacok for how long?

Don’t be surprised if he’s snubbed again this year.

Recall that in Cacok's sophomore year - when he broke the all time NCAA fg% record - they didn't even make him 2nd team all conference. It was so embarrassing to them that they deemed him "defensive player of the Year " because to have snubbed him completely would have made them look stupid.

Agree. That's what worries me about a lot of those (amazing, truly) stats HAWKING submitted. It seems that recent history suggest that the CAA in their infinite wisdom of giving out personal end of season awards may willfully disregard any national level achievement and go for their simple "how many times this year did we give ________ a ROW award?" and just base it off of that number. I don't trust the CAA to do any homework on national level achievement when justifying why they gave someone an award.

Snubbing Cacok that year when he not only broke the previous NCAA record for season FG%, he absolutely crushed and shattered it should be a constant stain on the CAA leadership and reminder to not screw it up again.

That being said, what Toews has done/is doing is phenomenal for a freshman by all standards. That along with his numerous ROW should get it done, but I agree that he's not a lock just yet. Wynter and Audige are both great players and have their numbers. I'm just not sure that either have NCAA-wide, national impact numbers like Toews does.

Sims is good, and I'd say above average for a freshman for sure... but he's not in the ROY conversation. Not even close.

for sure, it's a start to finish measurement. Kai started slow in terms of turnovers, but, improved that relatively quickly. Sims really hasn't come on until lately.

RE: Edit: TOEWS R.O.W for FOURTH Time
I have been saying all along, since Sims started getting more playing time, that he was getting better every game. Too slow of a process to put him in the running for ROY, but definitely a great improvement that will pay off tremendously for this team for the next three years. As he builds more confidence on the court, he is driving the ball more to the hole, instead of just settling for threes. And I still think he may grow another inch or two. But, either way, I think he will be part of our answer at wing. Hopefully along with Boggs.

How does his development effect Estime? Essentially both very similar size and skill set. Although as you mentioned Sims drives have improved and that's something Estime doesn't do often

I think his ability to put the ball on the floor and attack an interior defense will set him apart. Estime will have a role as an efficient shooter, but especially as we are moving on from the Cacok era, we MUST have players who can attack the interior. We've seen what happens when we solely rely on jumpers for offense. It's ugly. Like any good team, we have to be balanced. We have to have players who will drive the ball to keep a defense honest, as well as an option to kick out to realiable shooters if the drive isnt there or the perimeter defenders collapse. So far, Sims is looking like the most likely of current candidates to fill that type of role on offense. His ability to defend 4 positions obviously is another plus, as he won't be a liability on the other end.
