2 critical condition, in surgery. 2 stable, wasn't clear how the 5th was injured. Serving a drug search warrant in North Houston (7800 Hardy for anyone who knows Houston). 12 narcotics officers and 6 plainclothesman there (10 fewer than were sent to apprehend Roger Stone). Didn't hear about the suspects. There were 1 or 2 firing as them came in the door.
Announced they were police as they broke in the door. Simultaneous with siren and lights starting on the street.
SE Houston, not North Houston. By 225 and 610 Loop. Basically the Ship Channel area. As Kronke says, it's not a great neighborhood. Two of the 3 suspects are dead. The other one was negotiating with police last I heard.
First, my thoughts and prayers are with the officers and their families. I greatly appreciate the men and women of the Houston Police Department who dedicate their lives to keeping the citizens of Houston safe.
Now, some information. According to Chief Art Acevedo, the narcotics division went to serve a warrant at the house where the shooting took place. The suspects involved were alleged to have been selling black tar heroin. So no, this drug bust wasn't over a little bit of weed.
Quote:HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Five Houston police officers have been wounded in a shooting in southeast Houston while serving a narcotics warrant.
Life Flight was called to the scene. All the officers have been taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital.
Two of the officers, ages 54 and 40, are in surgery in critical condition. Both were reportedly shot in the neck.
The other three injured officers are listed as stable. One of those officers is expected to be discharged from the hospital. None of the officers' names have been released.
Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo says narcotics officers, with patrol officers on the scene to provide support, announced themselves at the suspects' home in the 7800 block of Harding at about 4:15 p.m. Monday. Immediately, officers were under fire from one or two suspects inside the home.
Houston police confirmed two suspects were killed in the exchange of gunfire.
Police said a tip from a neighbor that the suspects were dealing drugs, including black tar heroin, led officers to the house.
Gov. Greg Abbott said the shooting highlights the "service and sacrifice our brave men and women in law enforcement make every day to keep us safe."
Now then, KTRK-TV ABC13 had three friggin' reporters at the scene of the shooting. Three reporters! Seriously? I can understand one, but three? That's just overkill. (And they also had coverage from the sky, which is understandable because there were a hell of a lot of police vehicles over there.)

"Acevedo and Michelle McNutt, chief of trauma surgery at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston, provided updates on four of the officers, explaining that the family of the fifth officer has requested no information be released:
• The 54-year-old who "heroically made the entry" was shot in the face and required surgery. He is recovering, but the facial trauma team will have to perform more operations. Police said he had been with the force for 32 years. He is in serious condition and is stable, the department said.
The 54-year-old officer is no stranger to taking a bullet in the line of duty, the chief said. He was shot in 1992 and 1997.
"He's done something in life that God really watches over him," Acevedo said. The chief described him as a big, strong teddy bear who is "tough as nails." The only thing larger than his physical stature, the chief said, is his courage."
I'm curious to find out if the Houston Police Union President is going to be ordered to step down after his statemetn:
Quote:Joe Gamaldi: And now I want to speak in behalf of the 5,200 officers in the Houston police department and the other 800,000 police officers who are working the streets every single day putting their lives on the line. We are sick and tired of having targets on our back. We are sick and tired of having dirtbags trying to take out lives when all we are trying to do is protect this community and protect our families. Enough is enough. And if you’re the ones out there spreading the rhetoric that police officers are the enemy, well just know we all got your number now. We’re going to be keeping track of all y’all. And we’re going to make sure that we hold you accountable every time you stir the pot on our police officers.
Why do i see the SJW and lefties going ape-**** over this comment... but it's about time someone said something for the officers...

I doubt it. Although left-leaning, Houston is still a moderate, reasonable city, politically. One of the few. It ain't chicago, LA, san francisco, or some other alt-left hellhole.
Yeah Kronke and I are in agreement - a rare occasion but that's what the city of Houston will do for us.
I haven't seen anyone in Houston complaining about that statement but I haven't looked for it either.
I'd also say that this city was pretty solemn and unified in its grieving for George H.W. Bush too. He was obviously a Republican - maybe not conservative enough for some, but I'd say Houston mourned his passing in unison after he died.
I'll probably take some grief for this sentence but what the heck, I'll go ahead and say it anyway. I just kind of assumed that the neighborhood where the shooting took place was an Hispanic one. Plus I had heard the warrant being handed out was connected to both drug and gang task forces. So I was thinking the killers might have come from an Hispanic gang. But looking at their photos, they looked to be your typical white trash drug dealers.

Probably talking about losers on social media posting about killing cops and that crap.
It may not come from Houston, but I'd wager if word if this statement gets around.. expect the SJW's of the North East, DC, LA, Chicago, etc. to start coming out of the woodwork.

So, They send 30 heavily armed Cops (of one sort or another) to bang down an old guys door and scare his deaf wife and even the damn dogs.
Not even a week later 5 (likely) good cops enter a place with armed, drug dealing thugs, holed up and 5 of them get shot.
Did CNN get the "brave, liveshot" of this one too?
effing ridiculous.
Thankfully apparently all 5 will recover completely, and the bull moose that's taken 3 shots already. Uhhhh, might be time to head to the sidelines. You've done the job, I wouldn't think you'd wanna keep pushing that luck. Big round of applause for that spokesperson too, confront the mob straight on.

People have too much time on their hands and are too willing to think there is a conspiracy going on about everything. This guy in this video believes the police raided the wrong house and were supposed to be raiding 7815 West Hardy Street, instead of Harding. The two houses are not even anywhere close to each other but because the other house seems to be in an even rougher part of town and has a lot of cameras for security, that the police raided the wrong house?
I find that impossible to believe. And if it was the wrong house, don't you think the police would have been at the correct house in force by now? The police warrant says that undercover officers were at the Harding house earlier and bought some black tar heroin there. People who make videos like this are just as reprehensible as any far-left protesters who folks here like to complain about.
Also FYI, there were at least 15 cops on hand for the no knock warrant which turned deadly.
You can read the warrant here. The HPD is under a lot of scrutiny, and as I stated before, a lot of people think they raided the wrong house. Read the comments on the Chronicle site for more.
