Having a strong post presence makes all the difference in the world as we witnessed last night. Robinson got us off to a great start with simple post up / catch / spin / shoot moves for layups. His 4-4 shooting early on where he scored 8 of ODU's first 10 points were crucial to putting ODU in the lead from which NT never recovered.

I don't understand coaches that want to 'play down' to the size of the other team from the get-go instead of playing their normal lineup and making the other team adjust to their size advantage. If they are that much smaller, then abuse them in the low post like ODU did to NT early last night instead of going small like ODU did against UTSA. I told my wife last night that I would continue feeding Robinson in the post till they adjusted and made us stop. At that point ODU would probably be finding a player or two open outside.

Strong low post offense is what this team has been missing all season. Last night it was better.

Robinson’s additional production was very literally the difference between a close lose or close win and the fairly comfortable margin we enjoyed.

If we can get that much production from him on a more consistent basis I’ll feel much better about our chances to win the CUSA tourney next month.

Without a consistent low post scoring threat, it will be very tough to win 3 games in 3 days.

Also, Elbert got interviewed during the post game on the radio. I know there was a lot of discussion on the board on whether or not he cared about playing. His words were pretty poignant and I think should answer some of the questions that many of us have had. When asked about his performance, he said that he was happy. He quickly followed that up with “but I’m not satisfied.”

My opinion watching Elbert and his body language in person is that he wants to help this team win. I agree with Razor and I hope to see this kind a production going forward.

As a kid who was blessed with size, strength and speed, but near-ZERO coordination, I have a fair amount of empathy for E. Robinson.

Sometimes all it takes is a game like this to give the guy some confidence. From his interview it sounded like his teammates had more confidence in him than he had in himself. Let's hope he gets going from now until deep into March.

He needs to be far more aggressive on the offensive end establishing post position. When he dives down he needs to dig into the defender and use his size and length. He needs to play physically like Shaq instead of being a barbie doll.

If he can round the corner and be that consistent presence for us in the paint, then I look forward to the CUSAT

I don't really agree with this! I think the two (Dickins & Ezipke) have far exceeded what was expected of them and fill the void we had underneath! If we get any production at all from Robinson that will be a plus! I like what we have going into the back end of our schedule and into the tournament play. What concerns me more than anything else is Caver's physical condition and BJ's tendency to disappear in big games. If they show up and provide their senior leadership like they are capable of doing, we will do just fine. The "young bucks" have arrived!

RR I think we now have that with Dickins and Ezipke! If Robinson comes around great you can always use a productive 7'1" 285 Shaq!

I wouldn't call Dickens or Zip consistent, but more like evolving. Dickens plays better against less mobile big men while Kalu outmuscles smaller, weaker bigs. At least they compliment each other.

Robinson's biggest detriment has been his footwork. Last game he made simple, efficient moves and was rewarded with easy baskets. Hopefully lesson learned.

Just think, Zip is just getting started. Would not surpme to see Zip go for 16,18, or even 20 one if these games.

Ezikpe. I've seen this name pop up a couple of times on these boards. Is this his official nickname or something?

Robinson sprained his ankle IIRC. He has a history of leg and other injuries that has held him back significantly. Don't you think at this point he may be just a little gun shy?
There is no doubt in my mind he wants to play, I just think he knows he is injury proned and thus plays a little soft.

I agreed with everything you said until the part about BJ disappearing in big games. Where did that come from ? I can think of two games in particular (UR, Syracuse) where he just put us on his back and brought home the win. Every close win we have had BJ is the guy we have put on the FT line. He didn't have a great finish at UTSA but that's hardly a tendency. Keep in mind opposing teams are working hard to stop him. He is a main focus if not the main focus for an opposing team.

Was it on this message board or somewhere else that I read that Robinson lost over 40 pounds after coming to ODU to try and get back into playing shape? That would certainly show some desire to play one last season.

Hoping he can become Frank Hassell and Dickens Gerald Lee or Keyon Carter. We have missed that for a long time.

Zip can be the future for the Monarchs inside. I haven’t been as excited about an interior freshman since Gerald Lee. He just needs to keep on doing what he’s doing and be confident from the free throw line. And how about those blocked shots! I love that guy.

He isn't fast enough to be someone called "Zip". Kithcart could maybe pull that name off, but not Kalu.
