RE: Hammock already making an impression on HS coaches
Great article. NIU getting some nice pub these days on the heals of Hammock hiring and b-ball upset of Buffalo. Very positive statements about Hammock and his coaches in the article, but it's also interesting to note that the H.S. coaches who were interviewed (from Maine South, Fenwick, Barrington, New Trier and Vernon Hills) are very clear about NIU already having a strong relationship with them and major presence in Chicago and Illinois due to past recruiting efforts. Clearly they are referring to the Carey staff, because recruiting Illinois heavily and well was one of RC's goals. I like the fact that Hammock is inheriting a solid recruiting foundation in NIU's home state rather than starting from zero.

I like how some of those quotes from the high school students/coaches try to walk that fine line of being complimentary but leaving the door open to be arse kissed more in the future

Can we get enough speed from recruiting Illinois High Schools?

I am just hoping we don't lose our Florida, Texas, and Alabama contacts.

I don't see any reason to believe that NIU shifting its focus closer to home means we're going to abandon recruiting the South. Additionally, Hammock supposedly has connections out East. He's from NJ, and there's a wealth of talent in that small state, PA, and others we haven't really mined. Maybe that will happen now.

I was only making a point not to overlook Illinois. Hell, the midwest has produced some great players for the Huskies.
Sutton Smith- Missouri
Max Scharping- Wisconsin
Chandler Harnish- Indiana

True. We don't need to be so caught up in where they're from. The coaches know what talent fits the system.

Perfect week to be in Florida...
I can hear the discussion, "Coach Hammock, want me to make the rounds in South Florida this week? No, I have book the trip down there, it is important for me to be the first contact."

I can hear the discussion, "Coach Hammock, want me to make the rounds in South Florida this week? No, I have book the trip down there, it is important for me to be the first contact."
And the next sentence was "While I am in Florida, I need you to make personal contact with several coaches in Wisconsin."

That article shows that NIU recruits these high schools well. Now if you can get admissions people to do the same damn thing!

Not really. Very wet here as you noticed in the Pro Bowl.
Beats -50 temperature.

I love that he’s talking to coaches and inviting them to the Spring game. Should be a good turnout this year.
