Moved up 1 more spot to a season high 34. But that is likely to be our peak for now unless there are some upsets the next few weeks.

A&M and UNC both lost last night - A&M lost in overtime on the road at Missouri which was a solid effort. UNC lost rather big to Duke - that's a bit of a surprise, although the ACC has been topsy turfy (Notre Dame lost again yesterday).

Just keep winning and our at-large chances continue to be solid. One note to keep in mind - CUSA has only had two undefeated teams in its history in the regular season in conference play (Houston in 2010-11, and UTEP in 2007-08). Both years those #1 seeds failed to win the conference tournament but they both received NCAA at-large bids regardless (Houston lost in the 1st round of the NCAA tournament, UTEP won its 1st round game but lost in the round of 32).

If we can keep winning and crack one of the national top 25 polls, (and win regular season at 16-0) then I think we’d be on the good side of the bubble (even with a tourney loss).

Thing is, the way we’re playing right now I think the only thing that could stop us in CUSA is *us*.

Even #2 Middle fans are making claims like “we’ll be improved next year and maybe can compete with Rice then” (some are basically looking past this year’s tourney as a done deal).

Do teams ranked in the Top 25 ever miss the tourney?

I don’t think it happens in WBB.
In MBB, MTSU was in the top 25 last year before losing in the semifinals. They were clearly robbed of an at large, but I don’t see the same motivation ($$$ and prestige to the power conferences) affecting WBB selection.

Men or women, I can’t think of teams in really any sport surviving a conference tourney loss and remaining in the top 25 missing out on the at-large. (Except football-haha)

Since we’re not “there” yet I doubt that we could both make it in the top 25 and stay there even if we lost in the tourney. Unless it was at the hands of some crazy CUSA officiating or something that almost never happens.

The good and bad for us is that mid majors get more respect by the tournament committee than on the men’s side. The downside is there are a whole lot of good midmajors this year.

The upside is that espnw currently ranks us 4th in that group so there is that!

North Carolina and UCLA picked up solid wins today. Rice's RPI is now at 31.

CSM finally put Rice in their bracket as an 11th seed facing Arizona State (Iademarco's former team).

Not only that but Maryland would play right after us and that is Langley's old team which is coached by Brenda Frese who is the sister to former Owl WBB player Marsha Frese.

Rice gets 6 points in this weeks AP poll or #30.

Antonelli (CBS Sports) and Kratch (Home News Tribune, Somerville, N.J.) have Rice at #25. Richey (The News-Gazette, Champaign, Ill.) moved Rice up to #22.

Seems reasonable enough. I don't get the love for UCF though. Looking through their resume, I don't see any arguments one could make that they are a better 20-3 team than Rice. About the only advantage I see them having is they played better mid-major teams in the NC season (Quinnipiac and Mercer, I guess compared to just Little Rock) and have 1 win over an overrated Villanova team. In conference play though, Rice is vastly superior (forgetting about their blowout loss to UConn, they barely escaped with wins over .500 UH and ECU teams).

CUSA officials should build their case now that if the AAC is a 2-team NCAA conference, then so to should be CUSA.

We remain an 11 seed in the ESPN Bracketology but the opponent this time is Texas.

I suspect our seed will continue to rise if we keep winning. I wouldn't be surprised if we're listed as an 8 or 9 before the regular season is over. But it really means nothing.

This sounds a bit strange(to me, at least) as UT is likely a 3-4 seed at this point, and I would expect therefore would be paired w a 12-13, not an 11??

6 and 11 play each other in NCAA first round. ESPN has Texas (current RPI of 29) as a 6 seed. Its other 11 seeds are Quinnipiac (66), James Madison (36) and Ohio (32)

interesting as they re ranked ~14-15
. I would expect I higher seeding, assuming they dont falter down the stretch. They have a good track record in the tourney. IIRC.

The NCAA is releasing its top 16 for the first time ever this year, which are in-season looks at the potential top 16 seeds on a certain date. Obviously things can very much change in the upcoming weeks, but it's odd to see how their top 16 doesn't necessarily match the current RPI.

Here's their current top 16 they released today (along with up-to-date RPI rankings).

1-Mississippi State (7)
2-UConn (6)
3-Oregon State (30)
4-Miami (23)

1-Oregon (4)
2-NC State (12)
3-Iowa (11)
4-Gonzaga (13)

1-Baylor (2)
2-Notre Dame (1)
3-Maryland (17)
4-South Carolina (15)

1-Louisville (3)
2-Stanford (5)
3-Marquette (8)
4-Iowa State (10)

It would be awesome to end up at Baylor as an eight or nine seed.
