They will just continue saying no. Its worked up till now. With the government open---there is even less reason to give the president what he wants.

I agree with this sentiment.

Trump made his point and agreed to play ball and open the government to get the process going. Without the shutdown, immigration reform and border security would not be on the forefront.

He also made it clear that as commander and chief this is a security need and if they will not act he will. He is giving them a chance to act

It was only the beginning. If the ATCs stop showing up for work that would have an immediate and significant impact on the economy. As important as the wall is to DJT, the economy is much much more important to his 2nd term. His core base will be outraged if he doesn't get the wall done, but if the economy falters he will start losing the fly over independents.

Yes---he absolutely lost the shutdown fight. However, in fairness---with the debate now shifting from a shutdown to the wall and border security---he is now moving into issue territory where he probably has fairly broad public support. I mean---his goal is to get wall funding and the shutdown was no longer helping him to do that. Of curse, that doesnt mean Democrats will vote to do what the majority of the nation wants (for some reason Democrats generally are only responsive to their vocal fringe)---but we will see. Hope springs eternal. Can Democrats put the country first? I doubt it.

Dem's refused clean bills to pay fed employees multiple times.
Trump concedes to open for 3 weeks while a deal is reached on immigration and the wall.
Fed workers get paid and Trump looks like the good guy.
Trump gets his SOTU where he can detail the dem obstruction to date and push for wall funding.
Trump also basically said he will declare a national emergency if a deal isn't reached in 3 weeks.

Now either Dems come to negotiate in good faith to reach an agreement in 3 weeks or they can choose to parade this around as a victory and once again refuse to fund the wall. If they refuse Trump can go scorched earth on them, declare a national emergency, and fund the wall that way. If there is no deal and Trump concedes again in three weeks he is pretty much done in 2020. He should focus on judicial appointments and trade, and announce later this year that he won't seek re-election.

IMO, it was the Trade Deal with Mexico and Canada that was being held hostage. The three weeks will allow back pay to catch up with Federal Workers, it will mean that the February Congressional Calendar will not be quite as constrained as it might have been and the Pelosi made positive statements about the Trade Bill. I think there's your smoking gun on this one.

So in 3 weeks if their is compromise on the budget and wall, the trade bill is passed, then Trump takes what he can get and moves on to the next issue.

This, like it or not, is more how government works.

In the end the Trade Bill, and the angst of the Federal Workers, which includes a goodly number of Trump supporters were too much of a negative not to offer an compromise.

This gives Tramp 3 more weeks to convince Mexico to pay for the wall. This will be so easy.

*Reality slowly begins to dawn on Trump supporters...

I would urge all dems to take this win - that the govt is back open without funding for a wall - for exactly what it is. It's a 3-week reprieve from the President. A major concession any way you look at it, but it comes with an expiration date. What's the plan in three weeks?
