Well, they beat the hell out of a team from Memphis, so there's that.

Andrew Brandt @AndrewBrandt

All @TheAAF players all sign the same three-year contract:
$70,000
$80,000
$100,000
Nothing guaranteed (of course), can leave for NFL, cannot leave for another league ( @xfl2020) although I'm sure there will be lawyers.

I can see why the would be lower counts for UAB games, however i have been to almost every home game the last 20 years and have never thought the attendance count was that out of line. i don't know why they would not count accurately for the Iron, what do they have to gain for reporting attendance lower than actual?

Maybe they didn't count all of the free tickets given away just like they may not for UAB either.

What happens when the free tickets aren't passed around for game 2?

From what I heard on the radio this morning, it sounds like 17k was the paid attendance. That's a believable number if that's what the count was based off of.

It has to be because nearly everyone who was there is saying there were at least 25k at the game.

RE: Birmingham Iron to Honor UAB Football at Inaugural Game on 2/10
we can’t give our free tickets away, folks don’t want em. we send Tim Alexander from school to school every weekday during the season with a couple players and cheer leaders to do assembly’s and hand tickets away, parents don’t care when the tickets make it home. Same with all of the other youth stuff we try to give tickets to. If the youth football leagues are playing ball at 8am thru 11 am on saturdays during the fall, you think they’re gonna have the energy to want to show up to the games or want to keep their kids out in the heat?

Folks just don’t care about our team. We aren’t playing relevant teams, nor beatin* them when rare opportunity is given.

As far as being shortchanged on announced attendance, the Iron probably had 40k there yesterday. Whatever method they use to count those in attendance just needs to be changed.

What do they go by? butts in seats, tickets scanned, tickets sold, or Turnstiles? I know we have had just shy of 30k for many of our games and they announce some where between 17k-22k.

We’ve had some of our poorest crowds for the most important games. Only way we can start getting butts in seats is to play relevant teams and beat them. otherwise, folks don’t care. We blew an opportunity to host the champ game and play in front of possibly some new fans. The champ game needs to be moved to Friday and we need to work a deal with ESPN to showcase it.

But, this thing with us bi*ching about the praise for the Iron and why they argued the lowballed announced attendance for the Iron but don’t do the same for us is simple. They were there yesterday, they don’t come to our games. Also, attack them for wanting to challenged the numbers is stupid. It’s not about us, and we don’t need to make enemies out of some of them who do show up with their one camera man and a microphone to report on us when they truly don’t want to when they are covering us out of pity.

you’re never gonna change them thinking we should have 40-50k every game when our base is probably truly made up of 15k-19k, that’s just how it will always be. We could put 5k-6k in Bartow every game if we played relevant teams and won. Instead now they announce 3500 when there’s barely 1500 there.

I don’t know what exactly we are asking of everyone else? Or are we just bi*ching to do so.

I know it gets embarrassing to see Coach Clark have to go around to beg people to come to games and there’s no efforts(whether it be coaching changes in our other sports or schedule or facility upgrades for basketball) on our our athletic department or admins part to get into a better conference or bring better teams to Bham.

It just looks silly to be sending UAB crowd pics to anyone who discusses the Iron on social media.

I watched interviews of fans yesterday who said, “it’s great, now Birmingham has a team” and “it’ll give folks in Birmingham on the weekend something to do”. That tells what they think of our status right now. UCF brings p5 teams to town no matter the costs, we should shoot for same thing. That’s the only way we’re going to get interest.

The idea that we try to call ourselves Birmingham’s team, then get mad about every little praise about the Iron is stupid. They rep our city regardless if they have one of our players or not. We don’t have exceptional individual players coming out of our program yet, there won’t be players getting opportunities til we do and they’re playing good competition during their careers and holding their own. We just play good team ball.

This entire post seemed to come out of nowhere. Who is b*tching? If you're talking about football attendance, I think it's been pretty solid the past two years compared to what it was. I think it will only improve, especially once the new stadium opens. Basketball is a different story but look at the state of our team.

Much of it’s on social media where columnists, or DJs, or reporters are having to ask what UAB has to do with the Iron in reply to some of our fans and then some of its been in this thread before the game was ever played. It just makes no sense to go after folks, that have covered our football team the past two years even if they didn’t want to, that are all giddy over how things played out around the franchise this weekend.

There's been a lot on Twitter. We've got to find some way of letting go of the bitterness (myself included). It doesn't help anything.

There were talking it about it on the radio earlier and I agree, I think for this league to survive long term they're going to have to get an investment from the NFL. I know there's a partnership with the affiliate teams and games being shown on the NFL network but I hope this can turn into a true developmental league for the NFL, similar to NFL Europe. This league does seem like it's being run by very competent and capable people.

The @aafiron picking up where @UAB_FB left off with its perfect home record since #theReturn. The Blazers were in the house yesterday. Would be nice to see some former UAB players on the roster. #WeAreBirmingham https://twitter.com/SmylieKaufman10/stat...9414506497

Supposedly that is a fake account. Scarbinsky seems to think so.

Mark Jennings is a parody account. Clearly, they’ve been reading through twitter watching UAB folks talking shi* for the last 24 hours. They set the bait and folks bit.

Drew’s told me in the past, it’s a parody account. I suspect somebody within bham media is behind it though.

So I'm not really on social media. What's the story with UAB fans and the Iron?
