RE: Rice vs MTSU
Back to sleepwalking again. Had a chance to go up 10 but missed the FT since then all MTSU. Rice had a 19-3 run before this.

Youth? Definitely one of the most “streaky” teams I’ve ever watched.

No complaining about the refs in this one. 31-14 FT advantage for Rice.

79-68 win...nice job in the last 10 minutes. Classy move to take a shot clock violation with 10 seconds to go.

I think youth is a big reason. But unlike previous "freshmen teams" we have had over the last 15 years this one has a great upside potential to it.

They’re still bad, but not game altering bad.

These guys are improving every week. QMB is the best center we have had in quite awhile. The freshmen are just a very impressive group, very athletic. This now makes three times Pera coached teams have come from behind at halftime.

RE: Rice vs MTSU
I have to say, this team could easily be (and should probably be) 5-2 in conference games. I have been pleasantly surprised by the teams’s development over the last 3-4 weeks. Really wish Peterson can start shouting like he did in high school, that would make Rice really dangerous. If Pera can keep the team together, men’s basketball will start getting exciting.

RE: Rice vs MTSU
Super effort in the 2nd half tonight, especially on the defensive end. We held #55 to 4 of 22 shooting I think. Parrish didn't play a ton but his defense has improved a ton and I hope he can get more playing time. We had a lot of guys contribute and I really think we have more wins left in this time.
The only negative is free throw shooting (again). Adams and Murphy are the only guys at the line I have confidence in.

JP told me before the game that one of the crew had also called the game in El Paso. I was concerned in the 2nd half when they started calling fouls seemingly on every possession.

Dangerous to the tympanic membranes of our opponents?

I am sticking with my 12 win prediction from very early in the season. That might even turn out to be low. Who's with me now??

RE: Rice vs MTSU
I had double figures in wins and I hope 10 is low, but the schedule does get pretty tough the rest of the way. At Charlotte next Thursday is a toss-up (they got blown out last night at UTSA), and I think Western Kentucky at home is another possible win. Maybe we can split the Florida trip too. Then it will come down to which pod we're in, and how that schedule breaks down. UTEP and MTSU seem to me to be the two teams who won't make the conference tournament, but it's still too early to know for sure.
I liked Pera's quote on the team in the Rice write-up online.
"I want to say how proud I am of our guys. I don't know too many teams in my 20 years of coaching that have gone through what we went through the last two Saturdays and have been as resilient, as positive and as focused as they were this week in practice. It sure makes me really proud to be their coach. The second half, we showed some maturity. We showed some growth. We talked about how all you can do from those two games is learn. If you don't learn, then it's just a complete failure and a complete waste of time. We learned and tonight we applied it. The guys really made plays in the second half and that was fun to watch."
