Doug Elgin and his 11 (I kid you not) assistance commissioners, will protect the scheduling intern from such a horror. We know how hard it is to enter 11 schools into the software compared to 10. Craig Thompson is a slave driving terror forcing his interns to schedule 11.

Your dumb self keeps bringing this up. It's not men's basketball where the problem lies with uneven members.

Where then?

MBB, WBB, WVB scheduling is the same. There is no TV requirements for WBB and WVB, so the same software program can be used, and there is no issue with the odd Monday night or Tuesday Night match each school would get to keep it on a 10 week league frame. -- each school would need to provide a list of maybe 3 Mondays or Tuesdays they can host a game, and each will get 1 game scheduled on such a date (wow, one home game a year on such a night).

Women's Tennis would move to an even 8. Murray has no Men's soccer, so that would not be effected. That leaves Baseball, but DBU can be released as an affiliate (plenty of takers for a Baseball school) to stay at 8 and reduce travel; also women's soccer, but that sport has an irregular scheduling pattern as is (some games mid-week, some games weekend, no real consistency).

The only sport where it would have real impact is Softball with 11.

All the other sports are "individual", meaning the conference only schedules the end of season meets.

So Softball is the reason you don't take 11? The softball lobby must be really powerful in the MVC.

RE: MVC Expansion Talks
TV Contracts, the Officiating consortium, off campus rented arenas and several other reasons make this something that would take a couple years of planning for them to go to 11.

MVC has tv contracts and play their conference tournament a week earlier which makes the schedule window shrink.

The Valley is 2nd priority in our referee consortium and are constantly working to get as many of the 'big time' guys to do our games as possible.

Bradley and Evansville don't have full control over the schedules of the buildings they play in.

Women's basketball and volleyball both use travel partners. System works perfectly for those sports.

Also, The Valley is run very well by a well thought of staff. Look at the number of NCAA events that the league is awarded and asked to assist in helping with. The league is in very good shape with Doug Elgin. He's very highly regarded nationally. The staff and university presidents see no need to go 11.

This is the whole thing. Adding Murray State would be nice, but it's not a NEED. Adding Murray State doesn't make the Valley a multi-bid league again.

So yes, it's possible to schedule an 11 member league. It CAN be done--the Mountain West does it. But it's not really worth it. (The MWC did it because it was how they got Boise STate and SDSU back. There's not the same incentive for the Valley to add Murray State)

#6 seed UNI beats #3 seed SIU with 4 seconds on the clock. I love the MVC tournament.
Drake v UNI in one semi; Loyola v Bradley in the other.
(now we start the SIU HC Barry Hinson "death watch")

HOLY **** HINSON JUST RESIGNED!!

This Saluki-Insider scoop from a month back came true:
https://saluki-insider.com/index.php/com...ion-rumor/
Quote:Hinson isn’t getting fired before the end of the season. Or after.

Because he’s resigning. To run for office. Guess teaching runs in the family and something he’s passionate about improving.

Person I spoke with believes it’ll be a negotiated lower buyout. Mutual parting of ways after STL.

So BBQ saves face. But either way he won’t be in Carbondale (or Illinois for that matter).

So does he run for Governor? Senate? House?

RE: MVC Expansion Talks
Wow. Here is a link to Barry Hinson's farewell statement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXBemMaOiJ4
Around 1:10 he mentions that he was told that he had to get to the NCAA or NIT this year to keep his job. At 2:15 he says how sorry he is that he couldn't get to the NCAA tournament: "It's haunted me my entire life."

Barry was a good coach. But could never get to the top of the hill. He won more games than he lost, but usually his teams were in the middle of the pack. He made progress at SIU from where the program was when he started 7 years ago. But tonight is a good example: he entered a #3 seed and lost to the #6 seed. In 18 years as head coach he made the NIT 4 times and never got to the NCAA. He could give an entertaining press conference. But apparently could be abrasive to the boosters and wore out his welcome.

I wish him well in the future. If the political game doesn't work out, I think he could be a great color commentator, but the TV producer would probably have white knuckles worrying about an off the cuff remark that could light up the switchboards.

How is that?

They would be a 12th in the MVFC, getting them even. The MVC could frankly break from the Summit schools and have 6 of their own. In FCS Football is simply scheduling of 8 games. As is you don't play multiple schools of the MVFC with an 11th UND coming on board next year.

People act as if scheduling software doesn't exist. It's a crazy antiquated mindset from the last century. Pencil and paper leadership.

There are a dozen good reasons one can present not take Murray State. But Scheduling issues is not legitimately one of them.
