I've never seen anything like that. Couldn't hit a lot of FTs, either. Missed 9, I think.

Missed 8 layups too. Excruciating game to watch. Just finished watching it. Got home at 6:30 on the left coast.

Memphis is going to be a really tough out against anybody. They destroyed Temple in the paint. 1-23 is beyond comprehension. That's 4.3%

Antwann Jones had a terrible game. Davenport had a semi-terrible game.

Penny needs to get these guys shooting some floaters. Too many drives into crowds imo. Lomax needs to learn how to stop and shoot 8 footers. Same with Harris.

I'm very proud how they fought back shooting just terrible, but....

Yep. Lomax is strong enough (even at his size) to finish through contact, but both should be masters of mid-range shots and floaters. Understandably, Tyler doesn’t attack the rim a lot. Both would be significantly better if they can improve in this area.

If you don’t mind, IMO Memphis right now plays almost all one-on-one ball, relying on numerous drives to the basket. The half court game and outside shooting are not viable parts of the offense. I’m not referring just to the 3-point shooting percentage last night but to the set plays and shot selection. In other words the Tigers are one dimensional on offense and I agree that there needs to be development of a midrange game as well. I’m sure Penny and the players are aware of this and will improve.

They don’t play 100% ISO ball, but there is a lot of it. It actually was the most successful part of our offense last night. We passed it around to start the game and bricked a bunch of threes. When Martin and Brewton started driving/slashing, we cut into the lead. I’m guessing our approach might have been a little different if the shots were falling.

Right and it worked well last night because Temple is not good at interior defense and even that was diminished by our bigs being in foul trouble or ejected. Anyway it’s just my observation based on one game. And pretty sure the 3 point shooting is typically better. One coaching compliment for Penny was the couple of times the D went to a zone. Changing up the D can be a great tactic throwing off the opponents offense and it had the desired effect last night.

I disagree.

The primary problem was a combination of taking bad three point shots and missing open looks from players capable of hitting threes. If the Tigers made only 22% from the arc, then a Tiger victory would have been much more likely.

Futhermore, the Tiger’s offense is good even after last night’s debacle from three (67th in the NCAA compared to 90th for the Owls per KenPom).

Maybe. Yall lost at Temple as well. Tough team at home. And even with we go 3-5 in that stretch we are 7-6 in conference. That is just brings us to where our expectations were pre season....9-9, 10-8. That puts us midpack(4th to 8th depending on how the other games go).

About as brutal of a stretch you could imagine.

Also UC finishes the season @UCF and then Houston on Senior day

Houston's schedule is similar. Five challenging games ahead.

@ Tulsa
Temple
@ UCF
Cincy
@ UConn

Then we close with:

UCF
SMU

We definitely need to figure out how to win against decent competition and/or on the road. There is no denying that.

We’ll have to shoot much better from distance against UCF or it will get ugly.

The heart of our offense is crating turnovers and scoring in transition. We did a poor job of that last night. If you're basing your impression on that one game, it's not typical.

OTOH, set half court plays will never be our strength this year. We have shown the ability to execute at times, especially plays out of timeouts, but Penny has said he want to play at a fast pace to take advantage of our speed and athleticism, and minimize our weaknesses inside and for rebounding.

That should drastically change next season.
