I agree. ESPN+ is so much better than CUSA.tv ever was. Its not even close. The value of having our games on actual television is in student awareness, fan building and recruiting athletes. Not monetarily (at this point). I'd think it would be adventageous to practically give our games away to real television just for those benefits as long as everything is still available on ESPN+. In some ways, we'd even be better off actually paying ESPN to broadcast CUSA on ESPNU or something so casual football fans and people in sports bars would see us.

You will have the benefit of there being NO other options to see their team play.

People that will sit through a monsoon to watch a game would surely fork over the cost of doing so to see both basketball and football all season. And I would wager you've got at least 5-6k during a bad rainstorm.

$9.99 a month to see the Dogs in every sport any time they play? Netflix costs more than that and they don't feature any LaTech games. #$%@ them. 04-cheers

I know ODU has a lot of online students that are exempt from student athletics fees. I see the argument for why, but think its bogus because they still reap the benefits of school awareness the athletics program brings. I've always thought schools should charge online students the athletic fee and provide them with a subscription to the online streaming service. On campus students pay whether they attend games or not, so online students should pay whether they watch or not. That would be one way to "sell" subscriptions, or at least put a little more money in the coffers.

+1. Exposure is everything. There are basketball conferences that give away content for exposure. It isn't a novel idea. We need to be on linear television, not the internet. Casual fans aren't going to seek us out on ESPN+, but they may stop to watch us as they channel surf, particularly if we are only one of two games being aired at the time. Being a hidden internet commodity isn't worth the peanuts. There's no money and no one watching.

The problem is that we simply aren't getting paid for this. I typed this up as an option to generate funds and consolidate our media platforms.

After several years of poor TV representation for CUSA, I am much more concerned with the amount and quality of the content - so long as it is either free or reasonably priced - than I am with how much money the conference is making. When they start getting their hands in it they end up providing us either less content or less quality. At least that is what recent history has demonstrated. ESPN+ at a meager $5 per month has proven thus far to be reliable and has provided significantly more coverage than any other TV network has (not counting CUSA TV which is/was terrible).

Facebook watch where most of WKU games is on this season has not been good imo....Too many gimmicks, questions, etc., its like they don't really care about the game they just want to interact on social media and game is after thought...Not sure about others but when WKU game is on, I don't really care about pets being shown or who has ugliest sweater I just want to see the game.....Plus I have had issues with connection on fire stick with Facebook App....I normally don't care for ESPN, but agreed ESPN+ has been solid and has a very good picture and seems like connection is good...

Put it on a local channel and split the advertisement dollars.

Marshall would definitely be all over our local/regional channels.

I think the FB games are good. During the time you are looking at pets and listening to silly questions is when all other stations would be on commercial break.

I disagree with this. Just add the annual one-time cost ($100?) onto the cost of season tickets, and include the subscription with the season tickets. Fans will hardly notice. It's actually a great way to introduce your fan base to the new technology/TV package.

I have a couple of issues in transferring it from my IPAD to the TV. First is in getting it to go full screen on the TV. Second is in getting rid of the Facebook comments flowing on the TV during the game. ESPN+ is a much easier channel to view.

Maybe so. You're correct in that an extra $100 charge would have no bearing on whether or not I renew my season tickets every year.

Only if my school gets to keep all the money we generate. I'm not trying to support schools like Charlotte who have crappy attendance. 05-stirthepot

RE: TV Contract Pipe Dream
Even if Tech just applied a $75 Media Rights fee to each student per year that would generate about $862,500. Then if you ad the same fee to season tickets and only have 5500 season ticket holders, that would come out to $412,500. Then add all the other out of town alumni, parents of athletes and OOC opponents in both basketball, baseball and football. Your then talking about 1.5 million just for Tech which is one of the smaller markets schools.

Agree with Herdfan about Local/Regional TV scheduling! 01-ncaabbs I have to believe the vast majority of the 100,000+ MT alums living in Tennessee (70,000 of whom are in the Nashville TV market) are more likely to tune in. Traditional viewers (anybody over 45 03-shhhh) don't want to hunt for some obscure internet hook-up to watch sports.
